So I was just watching a performance of A Chorus Line on YouTube, and was just wondering, how much do members of Broadway productions chorus singers and dancers make?
Minimum of $1807 weekly in the biggest cities for the least experienced actors - as long as they’re members of Actors Equity. Most of the actors you see in a Broadway show will be Equity members. https://www.actorsequity.org/agreements/agreement_info.asp?inc=001
Umm, you can sign a union contract if you aren’t an AE member. You are considered an AE member for the purpose of the contract only, meaning you get the same deal, including scale pay, as an AE member. The initial contract is blind as far as you being AE or non-union for the first 30 days. You get a Taft-Hartley waiver. The rub is if you are offered an extension. You can’t sign up again under Taft-Hartley in a union production/house without joining AE. Neither can you get a job with another union production/house without joining AE. In other words, you may be non-union when you are cast, but you will become an AE member if you want to keep your job past the initial contract or if you ever plan on working on Broadway ever again.
Taft-Hartley works differently with SAG, there you get a two job then join limit.
Are the singers and dancers in the chorus considered to be actors by Equity?
