How much change should I get ?

A friend and I are going to be sharing some tables at a flea market this weekend. I’ve never had a yard sale or done a flea market before, so I don’t know how much change I should get or what dominations.

The area we are in is pretty rural, but we are starting to get the seasonal people up and the flea market has been pretty well advertised. I don’t have any items that are more then $20.00 for sale and I’m negotiable on almost everything.

What is your suggestion ?

Keep everything to whole dollars and get twenty singles and $30 in fives.

When I was working retail, we always made certain that we had $100 in the till before the store opened. That did include change.

Hmm, so with a roll of quarters - $10
roll of dimes - $5
roll of nickels - $2
not going to even mess with pennies…

I would focus on $1’s and $5’s, and maybe a $10 or two, but maybe have around $80 on hand. It’s probably better to have too much, right?

$30 in singles
$30 in fives
$20 in tens

You never know who’s going to pull out that $50 or $100 bill.

Yeah, like Yondan said, try to keep everything in whole dollars. Do you have to charge sales tax?

Not that I know of.

Good. That’ll make it easier.

I just wasn’t sure how organized this flea market was going to be.
