How much coffee could you drink before dying?

I was watching an episode of the cartoon “Futurama”, where main character Fry goes out on a quest to drink 100 cups of coffee.

Which leads to my question. How many cups of coffee could one drink before dying? What would happen to the body as it started to overload on caffeine?

Bump.

From http://www.healthscout.com/ency/43/665/main.html:

The Surinamese runner at the recent Pan Am Games probably had more than 100 cups worth in her when she won (since revoked) the gold in the 800m.

From this USA Today story:

Granted, five gallons is probably hyperbole, but I recall hearing it was an equivilent of around 150 cups of coffee.

You could take caffiene pills in huge quantity and overdose, I guess, possibly by convulsions or cardiac arrest.

Trying to get an overdose by drinking coffee, though… long before the caffiene would get you, you’d urinate excessively or possibly vomit. It’d be easier to overdose on milk.

Overdose on milk? Wouldn’t you just vomit it all back up?

I remember a fun bet to try with some dope was see if they can drink a gallon of whole milk in 1 hour or less and not vomit. It’s impossible.

Good god. I hope I never meet this guy at breakfast.

No it isn’t impossible. It isn’t very common but it can be done. We’ve had several threads about this in the past. Do a search and you’ll read about many failed attempts, a few succesful attempts and many theories on why it is so hard to do.
