How much did it cost you to get rid of bedbugs?

Last night a friend spoke of watching a documentary which claimed that getting rid of bedbugs in your home is extremely expensive. She quoted a figure of $80,000 in one case. I wasn’t going to argue about it with her, but in my mind I was screaming “BULLSHIT.” I’m slightly annoyed because my wife is paranoid about this sort of thing. She’s nervous about bringing bedbugs home from one of our vacations someday, and reports about the difficulty/expense of eradicating them from one’s home only make her more uncomfortable.

So, I’m curious to hear real reports. Have you had bedbugs in your home? If so, how much did it cost to get rid of them, and what treatment(s) did you (or the professional you hired) employ?

Depends on how bad the infestation is. $80,000 for a single home is ridiculous, although I have seen that and higher for deinfestation of an apartment complex or hotel.

Ballpark range from a couple hundred to $5,000 or so, depending on the extent of the infestation, the size of the house, whether it is a detached structure and the particular method.
