How much do illegal drugs typically cost per use/dose to get high?

Jeepers, those London prices are as high as a kite! That would cost £20 at most in the Bristol area.

A guy I know in California has a (license/permit) to grow marijuana at his home. When I joked about his “free weed” he quickly corrected me that he had to purchase fertilizer, electricity for his lights, etc. So then, what does it run, I asked? About $10 an ounce.

Sure I realize that, but my physician had good reasons to have me change, so I am no worse off now that I tapered off one and started the other. For whatever reason, I have far fewer side effects now than I did with the oxycontin, so I guess he was right. If I get sick from whiskey, but not from vodka, then I’ll drink the latter.

Heyhomie, what you describe sounds a lot like Demerol. Some 40 years ago I had horrible pain from a “dry socket” after having an impacted wisdom tooth extracted. I got a shot of that stuff, and brother, what a wonderful feeling, I was in love with the entire world. I vowed that I’d never take that again, as I loved it far too much. A few times in a hospital I was offered it but always declined. Now I just list it as something I’m allergic to. Great stuff!

Heh. I, too, list Demerol as something I’m allergic to, but for an entirely different reason. Not only does it not relieve my pain, but it makes me puke uncontrollably!

Oddly enough, IV Fentanyl (which everyone hastens to assure me is “ten times stronger than morphine”) does nothing at all for me.

When I’m in the ER with a kidney stone, my drugs of choice are:
Toradol-doesn’t make me loopy and is very effective; some ER docs are hesitant to prescribe it for me, as the function of my right kidney is very compromised and Toradol is hard on the kidneys
Morphine-works ridiculously well, takes about ten minutes to kick in, but then does the job beautifully
Dilaudid-works freakishly fast (I can feel it in less than 10 seconds after it’s put in my IV, no exaggeration), but wears off fairly quickly.

If I’m offered Demerol, I remind them I’m “allergic”, and if they offer Fentanyl, I tell them “Sorry, I know it’s supposed to be this wonder-drug, but it does zip for me”.

I guess that two things keep them from suspecting me of drug-seeking:
One-every time I land in the ER with kidney pain, I really do have kidney issues, either a stone or a killer infection
Two-if they offer Toradol, a non-narcotic, I accept it gratefully after making sure the ER doc knows my right kidney only functions at about 15%, but my creatinine levels are usually pretty good.

Same here.

£640 per ounce is a highly unlikely price.

Speaking of which: caffiene. Like tobacco, it isn’t known as a mood altering drug because everyone consumes it so much they don’t remember getting a big high. But have a LOT of it or go off for awhile then back on and it will resume its mind-altering effects.

And bulk caffiene in the form of dry coffee or tea is, per dose, cheaper than tobacco AFAIK.

I don’t think that this is really true. The high from a cup of coffee is not anything like the high from pot or LSD or the buzz from alcohol. There a plenty of people who almost never drink caffeinated drinks but on rare occasions will have a coke or a cup of coffee in a social setting. These people are not getting high.

I was just comparing it to the previous example of tobacco. I’d disagree, though, depending on how fast you are consuming the caffiene…slamming 3 mountain dews at once can give you quite the buzz. It’s not the same as alcohol, but then, no drug is really like another drug.

If I normally consumed one cup of coffee a day and then, one time, consumed two, the physical and mental effects I’d feel would be even more subjectively good to me in most contexts (i.e. anything other than just about to go to bed) than even one alcoholic drink – more like two. This would continue until about 3 or 4 coffee’s/ 7 or 8 drinks, at which point the subjectively good experience generated by caffiene would cease to be enhanced while the effects of the alcohol would continue to increase.

Apparently, it’s lack of demand. Everybody smokes chronic (which I can’t stand - it’s way too potent for me) so hash is hard to come by.

That’s what I was told anyways, last time I asked why it was so much.
