Like Trump and the republican politicians are the cluster B, dark triad, abusive and toxic primary parent. They engage in a lot of stereotypical abusive behavior (DARVO, gaslighting, entitlement, hypocrisy, whining, etc)
The democratic party are the beaten down, passive, broken, apologetic second parent who are scared to stand up to the abusive parent and hold them accountable
Republican voters and MAGA are the golden child. Because they enable the abusive parent and share their toxic tendencies they are treated well. However the abusive parent doesn’t actually care about them and will turn on them if it suits them.
Democratic voters are the scapegoats that everything gets blamed on because they do not play along. They hate the abusive parent and the golden child, and feel disappointed in the passive parent.
How much do you think American politics resembles the dynamics of an abusive family
A great deal, especially relations between the Republicans and Democrats. They act exactly like a couple where the abuser keeps beating on their victim and blaming them for it, while the victim blames themselves, comes up with excuses for the abuser and keeps on futilely trying to placate them.
There’s a reason that Trump’s election brought out a much higher rate of people seeking help for PTSD.
As my Aunt put it, “I feel like the whole country just elected my abuser.”
I actually have a theory that Trump has Borderline Personality Disorder because his obsession with imagined wrongs and punishing perceived enemies is so much like my mother. And because he can’t seem to maintain his relationships due to his unreasonable demands. And because of his profound paranoia, narcissism and selfishness. I can’t even watch him talk. Been there, done that.
I take exception to this. I would be more inclined to equate them to the passive parent who needs/wants the abuser to do their thing so that they can swoop in and coo to the abused and say, “there there”. They have no interest in the abuse stopping, because the only purpose for their existence is to clutch their pearls and say someone should do something.
