What is it like? Do we still have the same societal/economic problems we have now? Or have we achieved somewhat of a enlightened society, learning to live with one another and sharing knowledge/technology without conflict.
If not in the next millenium, will we ever achieve this? Or will we continue to have the same conflicts, over and over?
IMHO, I think we have a long way to go. The only thing I can imaging uniting a world society would be either:
a) a self inflicted holocaust (if anyone survived, hopefully they will learn a lesson)
b) a world issue affecting everyone that could only be resolved with coordination (doomsday meteor, breakdown of the environment/foodchain, etc.
As silly as it may sound, a friend of mine has advanced the theory that the only thing that would sucessfully unite Humanity would be an attack from an alien race. Given humanity’s gift for dividing itself up into "teams’, this would seem to be the perfect way for everyone to come together, even if temporarily.
I don’t think we will ever have a world without conflict. A world without conflict could only be be a world without people. As long as there are people, there will be conflict. So do I have any faith in the future of humanity? Yes, I have faith that the future of humanity will be damn entertaining.
Evolution never stops. After a severe catastrophe which vastly alters the Earth’s climate, call it the apocalypse, the remnants of humanity will find themselves limited to merely surviving. Gathered on the shores of the oceans and bereft of modern tools, people will learn to live off the sea using only the most rudimentary of techniques. Most of the world’s knowledge is lost as computer programmers, lawyers, politicians, and physicists realize their skills are useless and they don’t know jack about living off the sea. Mankind is thrust into the darkest of dark ages.
Natural selection will favor those who are the best swimmers and thus better able to obtain the food needed for survival. Humans begin to grow more and more hair, instead of blubber, as an insulation adaption needed for a semiaquatic lifestyle. Due to Oxygen consumption and the need to stay under water for a greater periods of time, the lungs become super-efficient and certain organs are reduced in size and Oxygen consumption - most notably the brain.
Over time, humans again repopulate the post apocalyptic planet. However, this time they do it as sea otter like animals with webbed hands and the approximate intelligence of a Golden Retriever. All knowledge of tools and civilization is lost, but life marches on as Mother Nature continues her endless dance with DNA.
well personally in the next 1000 years, realistically i think what will happen is:
a) nothing new, war, allies, war, etc…
b) or the whole world (atleast humans) is destroyed via holocaust/biochemical warfare
Although, about the alien idea. Even so, look at 9/11 sure america has become a bit closer, but we still have robberies, murders, etc. Human nature continues. Maybe if a race of aliens came down and we had some havoc with them and the whole world realizes we had to stick together, just wait 40 years and the next generation will forget all about what their parents had learned and someone in another country will be insulted and a fight will start or something like this.
Thousands of years have gone by and nothing has changed, there’s nothing to make me think things will get “better.”
