How much influence does one Nielsen Family have?

I looked at the Nielsen ratings’ web site, here, but didn’t find anything.

Suppose the Nielsen folks contact my family and we agree to be part of it. How much would what we watch influence what stays on TV and what goes? What if just one of us–me, for instance–watched one show every week but the rest of my family hated it? Would that make any difference?

I’m just curious. I think it would be fun to be one of those families, but I wanna know how much power I’d yield, too.
