How much is your Morgage/Rent?

$1050/month mortgage payment on 2050 sq. ft. two-story house on 1/3+ acre corner lot in a wonderful neighborhood just outside I-285 on the NE side of the Atlanta area. Avg. sale price of similar houses in the neighborhood is up 25% in the four years since we bought, so combined with the rise in interest rates since then, we probably couldn’t afford to buy there now.

I pay $620/month for a nice 3 bedroom.

I live in a 1 bedroom (upstairs half) duplex in the Montrose area of Houston, Texas. The rent went up from $325 to $335 two months ago. It was $315 when I moved in in 1986 (went up by $10 in ~1989 when they added cable - which I don’t use). It’s a “cute” place that I’ve heard described as a carriage house; I’ve got a second floor porch where I barbecue most evenings.

I think I’ll be in the market to buy a place (in this neighborhood) in about a year.

$595.19/month for 3 bedroom/2 bath condo in NW suburbs of Chicago.

$460/month for a smallish 2 bedroom, with 2 car garage on two acres. Over a dozen fruit trees. Not a neighbor with 100 yards on any side.

$1400.00 a month, 2500 sq. ft., 2 acres, and in a couple of years we’ll own it free and clear.

I own 2 houses. First one has been paid off since 1979 (I inherited it :D) The one we live in is $750 per month on a 15 year loan with 55% down at 6.25% fixed! (Thank you, Alan Greenspan and the Republican Congress!)

675.00/rent in North Hollywood in the San Fernando Valley.
Here, that is dirt cheap.

I’m at $650 in Wicker park, Chicago. One bedroom, full kitchen, big living room, more closet than I need and to top it all off, I have a private secure 300 sqft attic space that I’ve converted into a study, huge and insulated and touches no apartments but mine, so I can make lots of noise at all hours. Close to the El, and to the expressway. and not in the trendy punky heart of Wicker Park either, A bit east of there and quieter. but still close enough to enjoy the nightlife.

No…I wanted to find out the cost of living for other dopers. I know I have a low mortgage…and now you know too.

If I was going to brag, I’d start a thread about my genitals.

Geez…add a couple of bedrooms and you’ve got the place I would like to live in.

Neighbours suck.

Are you genitals less than everone else’s, or just lower?

Russell

Hmmmm…I really should try and figure out ALL possible responses to my posts.

I don’t want to talk about my genitals anymore.

Bah…who am I kidding?

980 for a 1BR apartment in northern VA. But also includes carport, lake view, vaulted ceilings, w/d, etc.

Saving up for a house now, which I hope to get next year. Only requirement is a 2 car garage. Then I can start being a “backyard” mechanic again.

I recently had my genitals renovated. It was kind of expensive, but it should improve their resale value.

The spackle still itches a little.

I pay $835.65 a month for a basement apartment (very little sun and people on the sidewalk can pretty much see right in if I have the windows up)It has one and a half bedrooms (The half is a large walk-in closet/computer room) no washer/dryer, no dish washer, but it does have a waterfall. Ok when the guy above takes a shower some of it comes through a nasty hole in the celing of my kitchen.

I am only about 100 feet from the subway to my job so that is nice.

I just moved to Boston and now I pay $1900.00 a month… I think I’m going to need a second job just eat.

Nen and I share a lovely ~1,800 sq. ft., two-story apartment that costs us $875/month. It’s worth every penny.

Mortgage: about $2050/month (should have switched from an ARM to a fixed last year - damn procrastination!)
Homeowner’s Dues: about $450/month (includes heat)
Place: 2000 sq. ft. 2 BR Loft Condo with huge deck in cool 100 y.o. bldg. in Denver

Upside: currently rented for $3200/month which pays all expenses (abovementioned costs plus agent, insurance, etc.) and the place has appreciated >100% since I bought it 7 years ago.

Downside: I don’t live there anymore. I live in New Jersey. But I do live rent free in a relative’s townhouse (while I’m working to get my business off the ground). So, all-in-all, I consider myself lucky.

Hmmmm… mine’s about 3400 square feet, but about 1100 of that is unfinished basement. 4br, 3ba. Me and the ex bought it new about 3 months before we decided to split up. I kept it, intending to sell it, but the damn thing just keep appreciating in value. Seems to go up at least 10-12% every year. Amazing.

BTW, wireless, I think we oughta have the next Denver Doper gathering in your condo. Sounds pretty nice. I’m sure your renters won’t care!
