How much juice in Fresca?

How much grapefruit juice is there in Peace Citrus Fresca?
I’ve asked a similar question in the past, but this one has a twist.

I was drinking a couple of Frescas tonight when I looked at the ingredients and discovered that, unlike, Sierra Mist, Fresca actually has grapefruit juice. The Simvastin I’m on specifically says not to eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice.

I’ll call my doctor tomorrow to see how much trouble I’m in, if any… I’m just wondering if there is enough in this stuff to warrant concern.

You’re forgetting the aspartame it contains as well.

Simvastatin and Grapefruit

*"It is thought that grapefruit products, including grapefruit juice, interfere with an enzyme that is used by the body to break down simvastatin.

This means that when taken with grapefruit products, simvastatin stays in the body longer. …"*

Is Grapefruit Safe to Eat When Taking a Statin Drug?

*"… Grapefruit contains substances that may inhibit the body’s ability to break down statin drugs increasing the toxicity of the drug.

Muscle pain, tenderness, or muscle weakness may be a result.

If you begin to notice these symptoms, contact your doctor. …"*

Simvastatin, 40 mg, 90 count = $15.00 (cash) at Kmart Pharmacy

Don’t sweat it. Statins are extremely well tolerated drugs. Just don’t do it again. You probably altered the pharmacokinetics of the simvastatin by an inconsequential amount.

Diluted concentrated grapefruit juice has 100 calories in 250g

Given that a can of Fresca has three calories, you’ve drunk the equivalent of 8g (0.25oz). IANAD, but that doesn’t sound too many alarm bells.

That’s the reasoning I’ve also used. I take Lipitor, and also drink about two cans of Fresca a day, and have done so for years.

I’ve had no adverse side affects, my lab results are all normal, and my cholesterol is well-controlled. YMMV.
