I assumed this thread was resurrected because it dropped. I’m disappointed.
Maybe they’ll just reclassify pitch as an amorphous solid and it will stop dripping altogether.
Set off some fireworks and bring out the cake:
WooHoo! I can get up now. My ass is so from sitting here waiting for that to happen for the last 8 months.
And I missed it again! While I wait this time, I’m gonna need a huge supply of chips & dip.
Did I miss something? I’ve been checking this website and the thing doesn’t seem to have dropped on the webcam that the university has been running for the last couple years. Nor is there anything on the university’s website.
Yeah, guys-- this is the Trinity College pitch drop, not the Queensland experiment. Two very similar but geographically distinct experiments. The article is very vaguely written.
Ah, it appears that there are two simultaneous pitch drop experiments: University of Queensland, and Trinity College, Dublin.
The pitch experiment enalzi linked to is at Trinity College in Dublin and has been running “only” since 1944. The original pitch experiment, running since 1927, is at Queensland University. That’s the one appleciders [and the OP] linked to.
Glad to hear it. . I don’t think I enough in the bank at the moment to buy 12 years worth of Ruffles and Cheese Whiz.
Thank goodness! There is still a chance to catch it live then. I will watch and wait some more…
This is a real nail-biter.
Never mind.
Professor Mainstone, the custodian of the experiment for the last fifty years, unfortunately will not see the next drop fall.
Looks like the University of Queensland is giving you a chance to be a part of history.
The pitch drops for THEE, professor!
[Freddie Fender/] … I’ll be there before the next pitch drop falls … [/Freddie Fender]
And the Queensland Pitch Drop Project has added a new hi-def feed. You have to sign up to view it, but it’s free and signing up adds your name to the experiment. You can also see the number of other current watchers. I was one of 222 watchers a moment ago.
Reading further, the new camera was added in his memory. Cool.
Are you going to filk the lyrics to the whole song, Boyo Jim?
I’m thinking of adding a poll to this thread asking if Drishti should take Sachin back or not.
So apparently the 9th drop hasn’t broken free, but it’s already touching the 8th in the beaker: Pitch drop touches down – oh so gently - UQ News - The University of Queensland, Australia Doesn’t this mess up the calculations? Or is this purely qualitative?
