How much money does the government.....

take in every year from taxes on tobacco products? I mean both the feds and the states?

What the heck would happen if nobody used tobacco anymore?
Wouldn’t there be a large deficit of money to be made up in place of tobacco tax money?

Well, this site lists it at roughly $15.5 Billion in taxes with another $7 Billion from the settlement.

It’s not the most unbiased site in the world but there’s some other good info (that the above is drawn from at The Economic Research Service.

Even with that income I’d say there’s a large societal cost in healthcase and suchlike. But where to get trustable numbers…I’ve lived in Washington too long. I don’t think you can trust any of them.

Even if there were no tobacco taxes, and cigs and cigars were cheap to buy, the government would make out like a bandit. Thats because tobacco users tend to die years before non-tobacco users. Thus saving the government years of paying Social Security, Medicare, and other welfare programs.

Thats why I’m always happy to see some lower income person purchase tobacco products. I figure since lower income persons are the ones who receive all the welfare benefits, they should be the ones who pay the taxes.

So Barking Spide, basically what you are saying is…

Smoke 'em if you got 'em you welfare bastards!

Interesting point of view. So, if you feel that way about smokers, then you must want to legalize any form of population reduction, pro-choice, the death penalty, Presa casarios…
