Right now I only watch Arrested Development. I see SNL about once a month. I used to watch the Daily Show but the problem with all that is remembering what time it is. It gets on my nerves.
I have a couple of “must see” shows:
The Simpsons
Lost
After that there are a few I’ll watch if I’m free and too tired to do anything more engaging.
Arrested Development
Amazing Race
Fear Factor
I used to like TV but I think the networks are actively trying to stop me from watching it. Fox has shown maybe three new Simpsons episodes this year and ABC does it’s best to ruin Lost with commercials. The last ten minutes of that show take more patience than I can muster. Three minutes of commercials, two minutes of show, three more minutes of comercials, this time pitching Alias. Then if I’m lucky I’ll get the last scene with plot advancing information before the credits get crammed to the side for more commercials. I don’t bother to stay tuned for scenes, instead I’m wondering if it’s worth the effort to watch the next episode.
I’m hooked so of course I’ll watch the next episode. I just take out my frustrations by ignoring everything else ABC has to offer, especially Alias.
Lost
Veronica Mars
Carnivale
various soccer games on FSW
That’s all the TV I truly watch. I prefer to spend leisure time on the computer, or reading. I do use the TV as company/boredom buster while doing math homework, writing notecards for A&P, or stitching.
My TV-watching varies - there are very few shows that I actually “follow” and watch every week, so I don’t feel compelled to watch TV at specific times. Of the shows I follow only one (Project Runway) is running new episodes.
The others that I follow are Family Guy (woo hoo, new ones soon!), Futurama (which I own, so I don’t watch them on TV), Sex and the City (which I’m going to buy - the TBS edited versions just aren’t as good), and MST3K (which I’m not sure is even on anymore, even in reruns - however, I do have over 100 episodes on video, thanks to an ex-bf, and I’ve bought a few on DVD). I can also enjoy a good documentary or TLC show, depending on the subject matter, but I don’t seek them out. I enjoy Adult Swim, but seldom get to watch it.
So, in a given week, I may watch almost no TV, or a few hours, depending on my time constraints and what’s on.
Oh, and as Askia says, finding a new show and have a marathon, seeing ten in a row is fabulous. I can’t wait till I get my new computer and a projector, so I don’t have to watch on my monitor.
I don’t watch TV. I might glance at it while at a friend’s place, but it quickly bores me. Haven’t watched much, or read newspapers much either, since being online in July 2000. I prefer the interaction of the Net to just passively watching schlock.
1. How often do you go, on average, without turning the tv on, when you have the opportunity (That means, your have the choice between watching TV and some other leisure activity).
Days. We do DVD’s so a couple of times a week I’ll watch a movie, but usually late at night when the squirt’s in bed.
The first season of Murphy Brown comes out on DVD February 4th, so next weekend I’ll be having a MurphyFest.
2. What are your favorite shows? Please list the most embarassing too.
Law & Order. My mother tapes it on her TV and if it’s a good episode, she’ll bring me the tape. I also like SNL but I have to watch it on tape so I can fast forward, because usually only about 1/4 of the show is any good.
3. Anything else to add to explain your answers for 1 and 2?
Not much TV watching at my house. It’s not that we’re above watching TV. It’s just that most of the shows currently on TV are below us. If the TV people ever decide to make quality family programming again, we’ll probably tune in a bit. (Plus we’re above paying the cable company $50 a month for 120 channels when we only want 10.)
We had cable for a while, and my kid was mesmerized. We got rid of it when we realized that after watching a couple of her little kid shows, she was impossible to handle the rest of the day. Even good shows like Dora the Explorer would turn her mean. The less TV she watches, the more well-behaved she is. Now that we’re rid of it, at my in law’s she might watch some cartoons, but soon she wants to know where the crayons and paper are, or can she play with her magnets, where are the books, can she go outside, etc. Which is exactly how it should be when you’re 4, I think.
We watch a lot of movies, though. Overall I’d say the TV is on about 2 hours a day here, the equivalent of one movie.
My vice is the internet, which I admit I spend too much time surfing. We are probably going to ditch it after I graduate from college this May. I prefer the net over TV because I can control what I see, I can find what I want just as easily at 2am as I can 7pm, and I can use it to talk to friends.

That depends. If you mean turning on the TV, to watch a video or a DVD, well… not much. I watch ~something~ every day. If you mean actually watching cable, slightly more time but not much. I still usually watch something every day, and a ton on weekends.

Hm…
Fullmetal Alchemist
Ghost in the Shell: Stand-Alone Complex
Beyblade G-Revolution ~what?~
Shinzo
Super Milk-Chan
Yu-Gi-Oh ~what?!~
InuYasha
One Piece
Shaman King
Gundam Seed
D.i.c.e. (is that how you write it?)
Dragon Ball GT (although I think they aired the last episode today) -
Some explanation… my major (and almost only) hobby is taping and watching anime shows, which pretty much explains that list.
