About three months ago a lady merged her car into mine at about 55 mph. I was diagnosed with whiplash shortly thereafter, and still experience soreness. On Monday, her insurance will declare their amount to pay me for “personal injury settlement.” They gave no indication of how much they’ll pay.
Do you have an attorney, or are you handling it yourself? Even with an attorney, you’d be lucky to see more than about $10k, and it would be about one year before the insurance company agreed to settle the case. Without one, the insurance company will probably offer you less.
I had a similar experience many years ago and was offered $1600.00. I didn’t claim any injury, but did have a sore neck for several days that didn’t require any special treatment.
I was happy with the amount as my car had a value of about $500.00.
It’s difficult to say, which is why I’m interested in seeing this. To be honest, I’m not too excited about the money, despite my unemployment and status as a student. I can’t even say how much I deserve, because it seems so subjective. I was unemployed at the time, and thus didn’t miss any work. I couldn’t exercise for about 8 weeks and I missed a few days of school, but that was about it in the way of limitations. For about two weeks the pain was near unbearable, but I’m fine now. ::shrug::
