Since I’m new to the whole “smartphone” thing, I feel I have a ways to go before I have a truly “nerded-out”/“geeked-out” smartphone, but I’m off to a decent start
So far, the phone’s set up thusly;
Klingon logo wallpaper, primary ringtone is a Klingon sensor alert tone
I have a bunch of custom ringtones to choose from, the “vwmm-vwmm” sound of the TARDIS, and a bunch of Macintosh startup chimes and death chimes, and the MST3K commercial break bumper song
I have the original BBC radio Hitchhiker’s Guide audio drama, as well as the new. Secondary phase radio dramas
I have the new HHGTTG movie as well
I have the “Horrible Van Remote” app
I have the tap-tap revenge 2 app (Guitar Hero knockoff)
Ninja Ropes Extreme is bookmarked in iPhone safari
not a bad start, now to find a digital book copy of HHGTTG
any other free/cheap suggestions to continue “geeking out” my iPhone?
Well done. I can never understand it when I’m on a friend’s three year old computer and the default background is still there.
My ringtone is the Arrested Development ukelele theme (sans Ron Howard) and when I get a text message, it says “annyong.” I should find the MST3K bumper, though.
Get the Kindle app for iPhone. They have the Hitchhiker books. The app is free, but you do have to purchase the books, and they’re delivered wirelessly to your iPhone in about a minute.
Please disregard that post. I am concerned that the person who offered the cheaper download did not have the right to do so. The site lets anybody upload files to download–I didn’t realize that when I provided the link.
I’ve already reported it, so the link will hopefully be broken soon.
My husband is a major computer geek.
He just purchased the new Android today (his first-ever smartphone, as he’s been waiting to find “the perfect one”; it’s one of the things about him that has made me homicidal on occasion. . .)
At any rate, he hasn’t had the time yet, but he’s dying to download the app that will let him use his phone as a metal detector! :eek:
It was slow at work, so I went crazy downloading more free apps to my iPhone;
Twinkle, Echofon, and AIM, social networking/messaging apps
Photoshop Mobile; a quick-edit app for photos
ZenTap; a text-editor
WritePad; an extremely cool app that lets you “write” on the screen with your fingertip and it translates it to text, just like the good ol’ Newton used to do
Stanza, Kindle, and E-Reader; e-book readers
TWC; The Weather Channel app
and the most useless, yet strangely cool app I’ve seen yet, the “Virtual Zippo” lighter, yes, it renders a Zippo lighter on the display, you can flip it open or closed with your finger, or by flicking the phone, and it emits the famous Zippo “Klink”, you can “spark” the flintwheel with a finger, and it lights first time, every time, tilt the phone, and the flame will move, turn on the microphone at the base of the phone, and you can try to blow out the flame, it will flutter and flicker in the virtual “wind”
the program really hates it when you hold the “lighter” upside down… , the phone’s vibrate motor goes all out, but the lighter doesn’t burn up, thankfully
it is a power hungry app though, capable of draining the iPhone battery quite quickly (especially if held upside down )
