How often did House violate the Hippocratic oath?

I was never a faithful viewer in 1st run but caught a repeat yesterday. In it babies were dying of a “mysterious” disease. To figure out which one, he put 1 baby one treatment, the other on the opposite. Therefore dooming 1 of them. This HAS to violate the Oath. My question, how often did he violate HO? My WAG is damn near every episode.

If watching House is any guide, you’ll get your answer in a flash of insight when someone makes a random comment.

both babies could live; both may die. And yes, in damn near every episode, at least once, probably more.

It could be lupus?

There was the episode where House was convinced that a patient’s heart condition was literally being caused by being lovesick- so he convinced the patient to undergo electroshock therapy to give him partial amnesia!!!. And then it turned out the heart condition had a medical cause after all. At that point I knew there was no point in watching anymore because there is no way in real life House would ever be allowed to practice medicine ever again.

I don’t see how that violates the oath, unless he believed that one of the treatments would kill a patient. Doing nothing, there’s a 100% chance of death, giving them a cure yields a 50% chance of death. Overall, each baby is “helped” by his attempt.

It’s never lupus.

Never. But check for sarcoidosis.

Or paraneoplastic syndrome. Or Wilson’s disease.

**How often did House violate the Hippocratic oath? **

Do you mean per episode or over the whole run of the show?

Also, let’s not forget about the number of times he was breaking and entering, and involved in conspiracies to do so.

House was a “big picture” kind of guy. He had no problem killing off one patient today (or two or three or a few dozen) if it led to greater knowledge about the problem in the long run. Or if it got him tickets to a monster truck rally. Or any other long-term, over-arching goal that was more important than a few patients’ lives in the short run.

Grave Digger never disappoints.

“The one that starts, ‘First, do no harm,’ then goes on to tell us no abortions, no seductions and definitely no cutting of those who labor beneath the stone ? Yeah, I read it once. Wasn’t impressed.”

There’s more than one episode of House? I thought they were just repeating the same one over and over.

If memory serves, he only took cases (or was given cases) where all other options were already ruled out, and you could guarantee at least 3 imminent deaths per hour anyway.

Tim: When they pronounced the “doomed” baby dead, House said,“Tell the parents they just saved 7 babies’ lives.”

What you see as a flaw was, I believe, a feature of the show. You had this guy doing all these things that would get him fired in order to SAVE LIVES. Realism wasn’t a part of it.
