How often do you change passwords - a secure MMP

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 24c/76f with no predicted change, and sunny. Weather app says “If you fucking like days like today, you probably fucking like boring shit.”

From last week:

Maid of Stone (what used to be Ramblin’ Man), at Mote Park in Maidstone. It’s one of about a dozen festivals we’ll be attending this year!

I have to change my work on every 6 months, I get emails from IT Support a month before hand. They email every day (including weekends) reminding me that they’re on a countdown to locking me out of all campus services. It’s best to change the password when I’m on campus so that it synchs with all the systems I use, but I like to leave it until the last possible day!

Good to see you back again, and good to hear that all the family drama is just about over for you. Good thing you’re retired, you’ve got time to be busy!

We had a fabulous weekend away. We spent a lot of our time at the music festival, and spent our late evenings with our friends catching up on stuff. We were also able to co-ordinate ourselves sufficiently on Sunday night that they picked us up after we’d finished watching bands (they’d been at charity pub quiz) and were back in time to see the last quarter (and extra time) of the WC Final. They’re big Spain supporters so it was a bit of a tense time for them.

We left their house mid-morning and got home in just under 5hrs (should have been 3.5hrs) due to delays, congestion and the pesky Dartford Tunnel. Didn’t help that 'im indoors misdirected me three times before we’d even got anywhere the Tunnel…and then confused himself on a couple of other bits of the diverted homeward trek. But we’re here now, I’ve unpacked, laundry’s on, cats are fed and I’ve paid the catsitter. She messaged early asking if she should put the keys back through the door when she left but I missed her message so she said she’ll drop them off soon. Hopefully we’ll get to see her in person to thank her properly for everything she’s done.

Time to hang up and washing, and then catch up on the rest of the news!

Did somebody say drama? I think we caught it again here. My mom is back in the psych ward again. This is honestly the most depressed I’ve ever seen her. The hospital they put her at this time is 1 1/2 hours away - even further than last time. Oh, and the visiting hours are extremely stupid. They have them weekdays from 6-8 p.m. and weekends from 4-8 p.m.

Also, a minor inconvenience is the indoor painters who are now on their second visit to correct their errors. I had to miss my morning personal trainer appointment because I’m not going to leave him alone in my house. The outdoor painters are here today, too, but I like them much better and trust them much more. I’m sure I already told the story about why we have to different companies indoor and out… If not, just ask and I’ll tell it again.

Passwords? Basically only when forced.

Senior Clerk and I were in early to catch up on the leftover Saturday stuff. Then I was loading Bottom White on the 200. I guess the heat and overwork got to the Screwup Fairy, because today wasn’t bad for a Monday. After work, I filled up Carmen, and did my Aldi run. They had the refrigeration fixed, so I got my perishables, but they were out of Sardines. I’ve had my shredded wheat cereal, so naptime.

I changed all my passwords to “Kenny”, so all I have are Kenny logins.

Welcome back, and glad things getting fixed.

Or Moon River.

Getting mooned isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

I burned my thumb on a pan last night. The callused bit on your non dominant hand is a good place to burn yourself, if you gotta do it. But I’m keeping it covered to satisfy our resident night nurse, and I’m not picking at it to satisfy my nurse mom.

Every time I do that, I erase the new password with a well timed martini.

{{{{sticky and Mom}}}}

Afternoon all. Shopping has been done and Jersey Mike sammich has been acquired and devoured, so will pack for the gym here in a bit and try to get back into the calorie-burning routine. Otherwise nothing much planned, now that there is no World Cup game to schedule my day around. Up to 86F now, so might just miss 90F today.

Mollie, that’s quite a tour Squeaky is making, hope his decision works out best for him (and he doesn’t take as long as LeBron James..).

I always write my passwords down in code to myself, like “one night, dad, star wars, hated airport-c” that might get 1-2 items figured out but the rest would require more research than I expect any hacker would want to do.

FCM, have an oil change and tire rotation scheduled for tomorrow, will see what that price is like. And thanks for the reminder, I started a list of all the accounts and stuff but don’t think I completed them, so need to attend to that.

cookie, nice gift. And hope the Doc can help.

Nut, even I have joined the 21st century and do virtually al my banking electronically–but from my home system. Good luck to your cow-orker.

boo fae, glad you had another great weekend and 'Im indoors and I would get along well, I don’t do directions so great either (google maps was very helpful during my July travels).

Sticky Buns, best wishes to your Mom (and you, that’s a long trip). And hope the painters are moderately competent today.

And time to pack my bag and head over to the gym.

Thanks. Got an appointment a week from now. I can deal with it until then.

Hope you’re pleased with yourself - I rolled my eyes and shook my head till I strained both. I swear, doggio one of these days, we’ll meet and I’ll smack you upside the head…

I think I’ve gotten most of the requisite accounts/passwords on a new, cleaner list. Oooops - just realized I forgot SiriusXM - I should probably bounce it against my bank account and VISA to be sure I caught all bills. And, yes, I remembered to hit SAVE frequently. Lesson learned eons ago.

OK, back to work.

I have protocols I follow for passwords on (a) sites that aren’t particularly important, (b) sites where security is somewhat important, and (c) sites where security is the top priority.

Unfortunately, for purposes of this post, the security protocols I follow are secret, for security reasons!

Looks like our get up and go got up and went for today. Dinner will be burgers from 5G with a milk shake chaser. It means venturing out of the apartment, but I can make that sacrifice.

Warm and hyoooomid, with storms being threatened/promised for later.

Have been awake for an hour or so, but other than a coupla potty breaks, I just can’t emotionally commit to getting up yet. Besides, when I woke up, IF today wasn’t my Blessed Day Off I’d still have had a couple hours before I’d be at work AND I had a snuggly cat nearby, so why should I get outta bed?

My only motivation to get up & put on a bathrobe clothes is to haul my lemon back outside so it can get a good soaking and a bit of UV light. I’d brought it in several days ago when it started wilting severely in the “heat dome” over us, and - like an eager puppy - probably really wants to go outside.

Oh, yeah, and I ought to retrieve the trash bin. How very motivational.

fifa fan fest is over!!! the neighbourhood is mostly liberated. lemon hill will be fenced off until after labour day. there are no road closures now. hopefully people will no longer be improperly ticketed or towed.

i did give in and go to the fan fest on saturday. i reckoned on it being a lightly attended day and my last chance to score a bofa bracelet. BofA Kicks Off FIFA World Cup 2026™ With 2 Million Free Fan Bands and Fan Experiences Nationwide | Press Releases | Newsroom | Bank of America the bracelets are free, one per person and a very hot commodity. a friend was there on tuesday and gave us the inside info on how to best get to the pavilion.

the game started at 5 on saturday, the gates opened at 4 (i thought it was 3), got there at 2:30. ended up standing in queue for an hour and a half. about 10ish people from the frount. at 4 when the gates opened a group of people ran into the space between the queue and the entrance and cut in front of people who had been waiting for hours. this did not go over well. the volunteers decided not to put their life on the line to block them and this caused a stampede to get to the bofa area. due to this, i lost my good position and was issued a wrist band to come to the pavilion after an hour. there are a limited amount of bracelets per day. the first 100 ish get in first, then the wrist band people are told to get there an hour later. when the wristbands run out, that is it. my neighbour and i were at the head of the wrist band line.

then one of the people from the original entry line came up to us. they were directly in back of us in that line. they had sent one of their kids to run ahead after seeing the “line cutters”, they got us and claimed us as family and pull us forward. first group!

we got our bracelets and got out of fanfest by 4:30, thanks to our line buddies. we missed getting caught in the fast moving storm that arrived around 5pm. i’m sure the bracelet antics got wild yest. as it was the last day. although, they didn’t have to hold back any as it was the last day…so maybe not that bad.

i picked the boot, cheesesteak, fifa 26, moose, and goalie glove for the charms. got home in time to shower up after 90 minutes in smokey, humid, hot lines, and settle in with gatorade and dinner; to watch the game.

during the usual saturday shopping trip, i scored a fifa trophy glass for half price, and various halloween items. yep, spooky shopping has started. michaels has had halloween items out for nearly a month now.

the only time i change passwords is when it is forced or i forget the password.

great picture, mollie! a lovely summer look.

i have a “when i’m gone…” book thing. huh, i’ll have to update it now that i’m thinking of it. thank you for the reminder.

i do enjoy a very bright spotlight full moon. io is a favourite.

It’s Monday, but at least I worked from home…and at 5:02pm I am logged off and done for the day!

My personal passwords all have one shared phrase at the end, and the beginnings are specific to whatever the password is for (think “sdmbpwd” or “bankpwd”). The shared phrase meets most “must contain a number and a capital letter,” etc., requirements. No password uses any part of my name or birthdate, any address, or any pet’s name. I hardly ever change them. At work the shared phrase is at the beginning, and the ends rotate through a series of symbols and numbers whenever I’m forced to update them. Where I’m the most vulnerable is anything requiring a PIN, because I tend to use the same 4 or 6 digits everywhere…and I have for decades (it was the PIN set by my credit union for my very first debit card).

(Should I have disclosed all of that…? Meh: if I’m ever doxxed I’m screwed anyway. )

Last night’s visit from/dinner with friends was great. I hadn’t seen them in a couple of months. K. dabbles in watercolors (among other artistic pursuits), and was tickled to see a print of one of her pieces hanging in my place! She brought me a plant as a housewarming gift: she knows that I have a black thumb (seriously, it’s almost the vegetation equivalent of inhumane to give me anything alive and green), but apparently what she gave me is pretty hard to kill. I like it, so I’ll make an effort to keep it alive. It grew from a cutting of one of her own plants, plus she made the small ceramic dish that’s under the pot (but isn’t visible below).

In case you can’t tell, the blue item is a bow. Dinner was yummy – filet mignon bao buns, with crème brûlée for dessert – and the music was excellent, and I was back home shortly after 8:30pm.

Upon changing back into my PJs, I finished the “Hogwarts Castle and Grounds” Lego set I’d been working on all weekend:

It’s only 13" wide, but the build was pretty fun. I might have plans this weekend – WifeBFF and HusbandBFF’s son/my “nephew” is coming home from TX for a few weeks – so I have some time to decide what to buy and build next. That said, if I do see him this weekend there’s a 90% chance we’ll go to the Lego store.

This evening’s plans include nothing more ambitious than nuking some microwave popcorn and hanging out in the TV room. Ack, except I just remembered that at some point I need to haul the biiiiig trash can from the garage to the sidewalk. I think I will take a chance and do so in my current jammies-and-no-bra state of dishabille…but perhaps I shall wait until after sundown.

I’ll say!

Just two hours ago I sent my dad and brother an updated verison of my “If I Die” document! :joy:

:people_hugging:

Mrs Magill has made it to Buffalo. It sounds like they’re going to Niagara for dinner. They tour UB tomorrow, then on to Toronto.

There has been a sizeable house centipede on the wall of the TV room since I came down here (~90 minutes ago). I’m all about “live and let live,” but it needs to stop looking at me.

{{{sticky}}}

I’m still using a password from my first email account that was with PINE. What was that, 30 years ago?

Ariel had an 3 week ultrasound check this morning. The ligament fibers are remodeling into a more uniform pattern so she is on the mend. She had another shockwave treatment. There will be a third follow up and shockwave treatment in 3 to 4 weeks and at that point the Vet and I will discuss easing her back into a rehabilitation exercise regime. I did not realize how nervous I was to hear the findings until it was over and my body just went aaaaahhhhh.

Howdy Y’all! Been home a while from feedin’ the rugrats, but needed some chill time. I got a text this mornin’ to tell me of the menu change. Pizza night will be Firday. So, tonight was chikin nuggets, mac & cheese, sallit, pineapple chunks, Mandarin orange segments, lemon cupcakes and lemonade. Everyone seemed happy and actually ‘twas good. We cleanded up the kitchen and took out trash and left the place sanitary for tomorrow. I got home around six-thirty p.m. We had some big rains all over the area this afternoon into the early evenin’. I just missed gettin’ drenched when I got to the church house. It also rained a bunch at da cave. OYKW managed to feed himself a steak, oven fries, and a sallit with ice cream for dessert, Just thought y’all might like to know he did not starve.

Oooopsie - pothos is very hard to kill. In fact, it’s more likely to grow and grow and take over your house! I have 2 because one was getting out of control. Now both are, um, flourishing. Just don’t over-water it, but give it a little drink if it gets droopy.

I made myself tread the mill this evening. It needs to be a habit, so I shall do my best. I took Otis for a little walk this afternoon - he does well on leash as long as he doesn’t see a deer. He didn’t see anything today, so yay.

Thus endeth my day.

I napped. Spot woke me up, trampled me, then napped with me. Now I’m up and having an Old Fashioned, mushroom cheeseburger, and fries. It’s thunderstorming, and the weather radar has gone full purple.

I might enjoy that.

I need to make one. but I’ll title it “The Necrinomicon”.

I go with “The world wonders”(MetalMouse would get that one)

Somewhere on the arthropod Internet, there’s a centipede posting "There’s a squishy in my house. I’m all about “live and let live”, but it needs to stop looking at me.

I hauled the biiiig trash can from the garage to the curb, came back inside, and bought a Jaguar.

It’s a pre-order; it’ll ship in a couple of weeks.

Yay!

That sounds pretty good to me.

Thanks! My friend agrees with you about the watering: she said to water it every 1-2 weeks, but that it’s better to err on the side of under-watering vs over-watering.

I do like it, but I’m really not one for having live plants/flowers in the house so I’m thinking that I’ll take it to the office tomorrow and put it on my windowsill. I’ll keep the small dish that my friend made at home: she warned me that the pot leaks a little, so I’ll replace it with a piece of Corelle. If it starts threatening to take over my desk, I’ll see if anyone at work wants it.

What’s funny/ironic about her giving me a pothos is that about a week ago I bought a fake one! Lego is coming out with a pothos set on August 1: it isn’t available for pre-order, but I’ve been planning to get it and display it with my other Botanical sets. In the meantime, I thought a silk one might look nice. Turns out the one I ordered was a little too big for the planned spot, so it’s currently in the upstairs hall bathroom.

Time to secure my wifi! (:joy:)

Evening all. Exercise was accomplished, I was going to let Sonic Drive-in feed me tonight but they had staffing problems and couldn’t get to me for 10-12 minutes, so drover over to Dairy Queen for one of their Double Cheeseburgers (which is quite good, now if they could get fries that were as tasty). Posted my recent vacation photos over at the Book of Faces (PM me if you want the site) and will be heading off to bed in another hour or so. Weather says there is a 20% chance of rain tomorrow, we’ll see how it goes. Have a 9am car appointment so that should take up the morning.

So he would be heading right into the danger zone…

Cookie, 5 Guys is always a good option…if not for the calorie/fatty intake I would be there more than once every 5-6 weeks.

shoe, hope lemon tree got out of the house for a bit.

rocky, quite a tale to tell, you probably made the wisest decision to watch the games from the comfort of your own house.

Oopsie, pretty plant, hope it survives your black thumb curse. And lovely Lego work!
And you are much kinder than me, a 100-legger gets squished as fast a I can find a shoe.

Wet one, glad to hear Ariel is mending nicely…but I may have missed it, what is shockwave therapy? Sounds rather ominous…

swampy, glad day one with the kids went well.

I did.

Oopsie, lovely model, I’d really like to drive a full-size one once.

And it’s after 9pm so need to be thinking about Slumberland. Catch all y’all tomorrow.
