Since I got married…never. Something about colors needing to be separated or some nonsense like that.
Saturday or Sunday, almost all day for TheKid and me.
Whites, colors, darks, sheets/blankets, lastly towels. TheKid goes through towels like nobody’s business, so often there are two loads of towels.
I do the sorting / hauling dowstairs / switching machines / hauling up. She’s responsible for folding and putting everything away. It works for me, as I hate folding and putting away. I’m more apt to just let clean clothes stay in the basket.
Weekly, at least for my whites–I only keep a week’s worth of white undershirts around at any time, so they need washing weekly. Same goes for running clothes, with the added incentive that they get stinky. This both encourages me to wash them and encourages my cat to roll around in them as if they were soaked in catnip. For other stuff, I’ll usually do it weekly because why the hell not if I’m already washing my running gear and whites, but if there’s not enough for a load, I’ll sometimes let it slide for an extra week. Sheets, if I’ve got my shit together, I wash bi-weekly, or whenever I notice the cat hair piling up on the corner where she sleeps.
Fifteen pairs of skivvies, laundry every 2 weeks.
Once a week, however many loads it takes (more in the winter, when clothes are bulkier). If it’s multiple loads, I try to separate them by color (why not?), but if it’s just one, they all go in together.
Where is the option for:
- Never - I am married
About once per week. I have to pick my day to be sure that my Caribbean clothes dryer is working.
Pretty much this. 2 kids in summer camp (outside play, swimsuits, towels) plus my 5- or 5-day/week working out plus a normally active husband = lots of laundry. Cold water always and tons of stuff gets line-dried, but still lots of laundry.
I go to the laundromat near my house at opening time, 6 a.m. every Saturday. It’s pretty much the same people there every week, and we get coffee and have an old-fashion klatch.
I am glad you have friends there at the laundromat.
I have mentioned before - an actress I knew in NYC took all of her clothes to laundromat, put them all in (five loads I believe) and went next door for coffee.
When she came back to put them in the dryer, someone had stolen every stitch of clothing out of the washing machines!
That woman only had the sweats she was wearing, plus an old prom dress/bridal party dress in her closet at home.
She had to go out and buy all new clothes! Not a happy day. (Luckily, at the time she was in a hit show on Broadway and had the money to do so - but it still sucked…)
Every weekend, usually late Saturday or early Sunday. I hang most of my things, so I like a little extra drying time. We have enough towels to do those every other week along with sheets.
I don’t have a particular day for it. I do it as needed. I don’t like to let it build up though, so I find that throwing in a load every other day is best. It’s just me and two teens who go back and forth between houses. Sometimes they come back to me with dirty laundry. I don’t mind too much; it doesn’t happen very often.
Linens [towels, bedsheets, pillow cases] weekly though we do have spare bed linens in case of some sort of accident like the cat hurking all over the bed.
Clothing - as the hamper fills up. We have a small apartment sized washer/dryer, so our hamper is sized about the same, and we have a secondary hamper for stuff that needs to be processed separately like underwear and better clothes we don’t want to be abused by being washed with mrAru’s work clothes. Our normal clothing is all old and well washed enough that it can all get lumped in together. mrAru is a QA inspector at a plant that does cabling and dryers for cell towers and always wears jeans and colored polo shirts and I tend to wear dark colored t shirts and either sweats or athletic shorts since I don’t work so there isn’t anything I care if it gets washed with his work clothes. We both have much nicer stuff for when we go out.
We do laundry off and on through out the week. We’re just two adults and a teenage boy, so I’m not sure how we generate so much dirty laundry.
Every friggin day, sometimes several times. I have 2 small children (1 who is cloth nappied) and the amount of washing simply boggles my mind. I know it will get better as they are still at the age where something can only be worn once as it gets covered in food/paint/dirt, but probably not for a few years. We line dry so we’re not running the dryer very often.
I haven’t figured it out yet. If I had my own washer and dryer I’d probably do it obsessively, especially now that I am exercising and dating. But the laundrymat no longer being 24 hours has seriously screwed with me.
As a single guy I used to do laundry every other week. Two loads of clothes and occasionally one of bedclothes.
Then I got married and for some reason the frequency and quantity increased 4X rather than 2X. Then our daughter arrived and I think we are at one or more loads four or five times a week.
Silly to quote myself but this should say that I work out 5 or 6 times/week, not 5 or 5 times/week.
Once a week, on Saturday. I’ll usually have four or five loads then. I do them all, line dry most of it. The cleaning lady folds and irons on Thursday, and I pit it all away. Two adults an a five-year-old.
Sigh. I knew I had a problem when I noticed that the responses in this thread of “never, I I got a wife”, really infuriated me.
I do most of our household’s laundry when I get home on the weekend. It takes most of a day.
