How often do you do "touristy" stuff in your own city/vicinity?

If you don’t count sports events or concerts with draws from multiple states call it three or five times a year. Some things become a tough call; the main branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is “touristy” but its also a handy place for us to borrow books and look stuff up so I’m not including that either.

We’re in Hawaii. Steady stream of friends and family. I can do many of the tours as well as the regular guides. Not a drag; great to enjoy them with others.

I live a $1.50 bus ride outside of downtown New York City, a place people spend tens of thousands of dollars to visit once a year. You bet I do touristy things there.

When you live in Hawaii, everyday life is often a touristy activity. A better example was living in Bangkok. All the tourist attractions were done and dusted years before, we might have taken another look every five or 10 years or so, and if I never see yet another fucking Buddhist temple, it will be too soon.

I said other, because it depends what you mean by touristy stuff. We live in the San Francisco Bay Area. We practically never go to places like Fisherman’s Wharf or Alcatraz unless we have visitors. We often go to museums or shows in San Francisco because we love art, science, and theater. My wife is Chinese so we sometimes go to Chinatown just to go shopping for items that she can’t find elsewhere.

I am another “it depends” on how you define touristy stuff. The only times I’ve been to the Statue of Liberty or Ellis Island sort of attractions have been on either my own or my kids school/Scout trips. But if you’re going to count things like walking around Times Square or Chinatown or attending professional sporting events, I do those things all the time

Not really many “tourist” things in Kansas city.

You know the saying about New York City - nice place to visit but you don’t want to live there, well in Kansas City its nice place to live but we wouldn’t want to visit here.

No really. for good tourist stuff we go somewhere else like St. louis.

Infrequently, but it happens. It’s unavoidable. I live in Manhattan, and sometimes I go through touristy areas on a mission but other times I’ll sit and nurse a cup of coffee and people-watch. I go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art a lot, which is a tourist mecca. We’ve seen the Rockettes a couple times, my daughters and I like to skate at Bryant Park. I have a habit of looking up and gawking at the architecture and like to chow down at Chelsea Market on occasion. I haven’t set foot in the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty since I was a Kid, though.

Infrequently. We have Mystic Seaport, the Mystic Aquarium, the Sub Force Museum, a couple of old forts, and a couple of other museums, pus I’ll occasionally go down for a tour when USCGC Eagle is in port.

Living around Tokyo around 20 years.

Visiting local temple or shrine: Only when necessary during some holidays.

Shopping in popular tourist areas: Maybe once a month.

Attending entertainment events: Few times a year. Movies a few times monthly in the suburbs.

Go to Mt. Fuji: 3 times in my life.

Go up Tokyo SkyTree: Twice

Visit Tokyo Disney Resort: over 600 times

Other, because we live in a beach community, and just visit favorite places off-peak times. Sometimes we end up crushed along with the hordes, but mostly it’s ok.
