Once a week usually, sometimes twice. More when on vacation.
I’m a celebratory and contemplative drinker. Since celebrations come along only sometimes, and I’m not all that introspective… Heh.
OTOH, that means I can afford to by excellent beer, wine, and scotch when I do drink, without wrecking the budget.
I voted once a week, but really it comes and goes. Some weeks I’ll drink 4 or 5 nights of the week, and sometimes I’ll go several weeks without anything to drink. Just depends on my mood.
I used to drink a few beers every night, but it got to be a problem (in many different ways), so I quit.
On Halloween I will have been sober for four years.
I don’t drink alcohol. I haven’t had a drink in months and it was probably a year before that.
It varies. I probably average once every three months.
Same. It kind of depends on the definition of ‘drink’, though. At least once a month I think ‘Ok, a bloody mary/rum-coke’ sounds good, and 90 percent of the time my stomach disagrees and I dump it. I have several bottles of wine I haven’t even opened cause they sounded good when I bought them, but I can’t be arsed to most-likely-waste most of it.
So it’s only once or twice a year I actually drink a whole drink, or more than one. It wasn’t until I’d been with my husband for 3 years before he saw me the least bit tipsy, and that was Vegas, baby! Damn but those pina coladas at the Luxor are GOOD!
Let me say that this is a far cry from 25 years ago, when I drank every night <at least 3 or 4 Tom Collins’> and far more on weekends. My tolerance abandoned me ages ago.
You missed “Never”
Wow. We got some boozers here on the SDMB. These results surprise me.
Got to cop a walk, need to change mine – past three days, a fifth of whiskey q.d. Nothing job-wise coming up in the next few weeks, except for some students who without exception are still high from weed last night, so why not, and it makes tolerating people a little easier. Not healthy, and I’m sure I’ll die of esophageal cancer, or that Jimmy Page thing where you get all bloated and look like a vampire, but when the Iceman comes, I’ll hang it up again. Kidding – just a recent bad habit.
Really? They surprise me in the other direction, personally. I could probably count on one hand the people I know who for sure drink less than once per week.
I voted about once a month. It’s probably less than that on average. I never get drunk or even buzzed, which is fine because I get a headache and more socially inhibited, which is no fun. I tend to drink a shot or two of sake or something, or about half a cider or hard lemonade (and finish the bottle later), nearly always with food.
I was drinking a little heavier this month than usual - between RenFaire and home I’ve had two hard lemonades, half a pint of apple pie cordial (which I totally could’ve finished in one night, but since I paid $20 for it wanted to savor it), and samples of other stuff (because, y’know, Faire). (… in case you’re not a Rennie, drinking and Faire go together like morning and swearing about having to get up… or whatever your preferred two things that go together are)
Couldn’t answer the poll because there was no “Never” option.
Friday night is my big drinking night. Usually start when I get home from work, drinking, cranking up the music and doing all the chores I’ve neglected through the week. Dishes, laundry, general cleaning. Wake up Saturday morning with a hangover and a clean house and a basket of clean clothes. Sat and Sun nights I may drink but in moderation. Don’t drink through the week much.
Every day, and I don’t think I have anyone I am true friends with who is a teetotaler. I have people I’m friendly with, or work with, who are teetotalers, but if someone can’t go to a bar and have a few beers with me then we probably can’t be good friends.
I usually stop after work and have two beers at a bar I have been going to for years.
Usually on Friday I’ll have a scotch as it’s a nice way to end the week. I’ll irregularly drink to get drunk, depending on what’s going on, who I’m wining and dining and etc I may get drunk 2-3 days in a week or less than once a month, just depends.
the poll is biased. there are no options for non-boozers.
Thank ghod someone finally pointed this out.
Normally, one (1) beer, two or three times a month. The past hot, lazy month or so, one (1) brewski three or four times a week.
My tolerance for alcohol nosedived in my late 50’s. Same thing happened to my wife. In our younger days she consumed a bit more alcohol, I used to average two or three beers daily.
And FWIW, our two very closest friends (husband and wife) are teetotalers. Both in their mid 50’s, they’ve literally never had an alcoholic beverage.
.
I blame this thread - I opened and drank about a third of a lite lime beer yesterday.
This month is a case in point. Friend from Boston over here last weekend, so Friday and Saturday nights were boozers. Friend from upcountry coming down this weekend, so will repeat that this Friday and Saturday. That will probably be it for a couple of weeks apart from my traditional end-of-month beer(s).
