I’m a weekly type. Unless there’s something stinky in it. But, those things usually go straight to the outside bin via a plastic bag. You wouldn’t believe how bad a discarded haircolor bottle can smell after a couple of days.
But, I have a friend who thinks the contents of a bathroom wastebasket are equal to medical waste, even just cottonballs and kleenex. Everything is double bagged and whisked away every night, and the wastebasket and surrounding area is thoroughly Lysoled.
My MIL does the same thing but for a different reason. If a guest is able to see the contents of your wastebasket, it’s the same as leaving your toilet unflushed. I agree to a point. If I have something ultra personal to discard, such as a tampon aplicator or used condom, I wrap it in toilet paper first.
I let it go til it’s full, provided it’s just empty soap boxes, shampoo bottles, mouthwash packaging, etc. When it has something more bio than a booger, it goes out immediately.
And heaven help the person who puts food scraps in there. Ill tear ya limb from limb.
I empty it at least once a week, minimum. I usually empty it twice a week, because it gets emptied whwenever the bathroom gets cleaned, besides garbage day. If something really dirty and wipe-intensive has been going on (MilliCal removing Halloween makeup; cleaning our cat Midnight yet again, etc.) it gets emptied still another time.
I have cleaning people come every 3 weeks, and I take out the trash the night before (they would just throw in my garage trash can, not cart it away) - so every 3, 6 or 9 weeks, depending on how full. I can’t think of anything I’d throw in there except empty soap or toothpaste boxes or empty TP rolls.
What the hell are people putting in the bathroom trash that needs to go out so often?
2x/week. We have trash pickup Wednesday & Saturday mornings, so Tuesday & Friday nights all house trash goes out to the street. Kitchen trash goes out to the cans every other night.
The kitchen, bathroom, and baby’s room garbage get emptied twice a week on garbage day, unless something noxious has happened (like, I was cleaning fish) in which case that can gets emptied into my small garage can (which I only use because nobody has to smell what’s in that room).
If my husband’s home, when one garbage can or wastebasket is full, they will all be emptied, as well as the litterboxes, even if one of the them has one kleenex or the litterbox has just been cleaned. He’s compulsive that way. So sometimes, depending on the fullness of one part of the system, it could be emptied on consecutive days, or once a week or so. (I try to empty just those things that need it before he gets home, so we don’t have to go through a whole “gather all the garbage” production.)
Not “so often”, but once a month or thereabouts. Period blood don’t smell so good after a while. I have to take my garbage to the transfer station (pickups 3x a week? I am faint with envy) so the smellier garbage gets collected and bagged at the intermediate step of the garbage can outside before my monthly sojourn to the recycling and garbage location.
When it’s full, or when we’re making a trash run. Sometimes the idiot dog empties it for us - today she decided she needed to chew on the toilet paper core that was in there. Luckily, I caught her before there were soggy paper bits all over the carpet.
When it’s full, and even then I’ll probably wait until I can’t stack stuff on top of it any longer before emptying it. No biohazardous waste in our can so there isn’t much need for frequent emptying.
