How often do you travel for business?

Onomatopoeia, it’s not just first class versus economy, it’s different ranks within economy. The people at the front of economy often have an extra inch or two of leg room, and get to disembark earlier at the other end. So they are the people with lots of frequent flier miles, or who paid a bit extra for the seat. Since boarding early is seen by most customers as a privilege, they are the ones who get to board early

I haven’t in quite a while, unless you count going across town to a client’s office. The last long travel for me was 4 years ago, when we made a presentation in Singapore.

Last year I spent more than 5 months away from home for business.

This year it was less than 2 months.

I have friends in my line of work who are home only 4-6 weeks a year, and not in a row.

My dad was away all the time when I was a kid. I know he hated it, but he felt he was doing it for us. I, on the other hand, usually go a conference once a year, and that’s usually in-state. I’ve specifically chosen a career that ends when I go home from work, and yes, that’s because of my dad. He had a heart attack when I was 18 months old and a second one when I was 11. I don’t want to do that to my hypothetical kids.

So, of course, my boyfriend owns two businesses and works himself to the bone 20 hours a day. Whaddaya gonna do?

A couple of times a month on average. It’s amazing how it totally kills your zest for travel. I’m going to India next Wednesday (from the UK) for a week and really cannot be arsed with it. I’ve not been before, and seeing India with my wife and kid would be awesome. Going on my own, into the airport - car - hotel - work - restaurant rinse and repeat cycle is not exciting me. Plus, the wee bairn is only 5 months and I miss him when I’m away.

I find the travel to be quite unhealthy - I put on weight easily but can stay on top of things in my home routine. Things go pear-shaped when I travel for work - no cycling, wining and dining plus eating / drinking rubbish in airport and hotel bars. I could do with an injection of self-discipline here, but don’t really travel enough to get a routine going. Or that’s what I tell myself.

During some periods when I am doing training for corporate, I can be out of the state for up to 4-5 weeks at a time. Once I was in travel limbo from July-November, had my furniture put in storage and spent 4 weeks on and 1 week off in S California.
I’ll probably be starting something similar this December for a couple months again.

For about 6 years I would take a yearly, week long trip to a theatre festival with a group of students (this was for my part time teaching job), but I haven’t gone for the last couple of years. That was the only ‘business’ travel I’ve done
