Commercials occasionally get the rights to use classic songs. Sometimes it’s a song that I’ve heard constantly on oldies stations.
Downy surprised me with a song I haven’t heard in decades. I couldn’t remember the title or singer. It’s Paul Anka’s, Times of Your Life. It was used in mid 1970’s Kodak Commercials. It’s been dusted off by Downy fabric softener.
It’s such a odd feeling to be reminded of an old memory. I immediately knew this was a song I used to like. I had to immediately grab my phone to google the details. I’ve already listened to the complete song several times on YouTube.
A commercial for the prescription drug Ozempic retools “Whoa Oh Oh It’s Magic” by Pilot (1974). Hadn’t heard that song in decades before it came up in the ad.
Quite often! Right now I can’t think of one, of course. Many times when I hear a song on a commercial it’s a song that I haven’t heard for a long time and I find that I really like it. There have been many times I’ve added a song to my playlist for that reason. I also hear songs that I’ve never heard and then I start digging around to find out the title and artist so I can add it to my playlist. The one of the those that comes to mind is Have Love Will Travel by The Sonics. I love that song but had never heard it until it was on a car commercial a few years ago.
I hadn’t exactly forgotten about the song “Da Da Da” by minimalist 80s German pop band ‘Trio’. I was into the band for a minute back in the 80s. But I hadn’t thought about the band or their biggest (only?) hit for years until it was featured in a Volkswagen commercial in the early 2000s.
Odd song choice for a car commercial when its chorus goes “Da Da Da I don’t love you you don’t love me”.
