How often does the dog die?

I think there is a site for this called “does the dog die” about animals getting killed in film?

Oh. Lord. I forgot that one.

Dog barks at dinosaur.

Dinosaur eats dog.

What a buzz kill.

Don’t name your new puppy Buzz, guys

The knockoff version of this, K-9, had Jim Belushi.

Except, although shot, the dog lives!

Cried about Old Yeller. Cried about Sounder. Saw them both when I was over 30. Both great movies. Cannot speak for the general public, but I as an elderly southern cracker I consider movies where the dog dies to be relentless downers.

My wife told me about a book she just read where the octopus dies. I won’t read it. If they make a movie of it, I won’t watch. Animals deserve to win in the long run…

Cujo doesn’t survive.

Chekov’s Dog. If a dog is shown early in the movie, the dog will die before the end.

I was just about to mention the Jurassic Park doghouse scene.

Dogs don’t fare well in a couple of Wes Anderson movies. Snoopy the fox terrier in Moonrise Kingdom comes to mind.

Surprised it’s been this long without a mention of John Wick.

In All Dogs Go to Heaven, a number of dogs die or have died. We even get a glimpse of doggy hell!

Which seems contradictory, given the title of the movie.

I know, right!?

Anderson’s partner-in-crime Noah Baumbach almost killed off a dog in Greenberg.

It all turns out alright by the end of Homeward Bound, but it still makes me cry just thinking about it. “It was too far. He was just too old…”

Post 11, obliquely.

Right. I avoid any book with a dog on the cover, or prominently mentioned.

The Knife of Never Letting Go really ambushed me.

A Fish Called Wanda does a triple canine delifeination. But it’s for laughs, so that’s okay.

In checking on this I found a site sort of dedicated to this topic: https://www.doesthedogdie.com/

Yup, came in here to mention that site. Not only does it tell you if a dog dies, but all sorts of other things people care about in movies (I check it for cat deaths and onscreen vomiting, which I’d prefer not to watch). I’m glad it’s there.

I’ll mention Jurassic Bark.
