How old was Adam, really?

She was 75,000 years old? Man, that’s some MILF!

Well, what I got out of it was Gould saying, “Hey, like everyone else I thought that Ussher was a benighted yokel accepting the literal words of the Bible without cavil. But when I took a good look at what he did, I came away with a respect for his efforts to bring the best scholarship (historiography) of the day to the question of how old was the Earth.” Granted that the advances of science and of critical history and archaeology have made vast strides since then, the 4004 B.C. date, far from being a totally uncritical faith-based piece of garbage, was actually arrived at by the best science of the day.

And yeah, most Anglican archbishops have believed in God; it’s kind of a requirement for the job! Belief doesn’t mean one cannot do critical study and research.
