How’s the fishing where you are?

I live in northern Illinois, in what’s known as the “Chicagoland Area”, and most of my fishing is done in local forest preserve lakes that receive heavy fishing pressure, and are none too clean (both in the water and in the usual visitors). One needs to work pretty hard to get bit period, and a 3lb largemouth bass is a trophy catch. Some of the other local lakes are stocked with trout, but those get fished out within a week or so. Most of the lakes around here are supposedly good carp waters, but I don’t aim after them too often, as they wreak havoc on my gear.

There is some decent fishing to be had on Lake Michigan, but it’s a hassle to get down there, pay for parking, and find an open spot at the harbor. Suffice to say I don’t live in a world class fishing area, much to my chagrin. :frowning:

So, how’s the fishing where you are? Better? Worse? The same?

Cluricaun - have you tried Donut Lake? Supposed to be pretty good there…

As a matter of fact I hadn’t even heard of it, and until I Googled it I thought I might be a “woosh” based on the name

That looks pretty promising. I’ve never gone to a fee area before, but at $2.50 it might well be worth it. Thanks Missy!

They’ve got white crappie, yellow bass, bluegill, carp, largemouth and smallmouth bass, channel cats, tiger muskies, northern pike and yellow perch - they just stocked it recently as a matter of fact.

They have creel limits and size reqs - they’ll give you sheet with all that.

Salt Creek Park District is a great place - you’ve probably driven right by it - it’s on the left if you’re going northbound on Rt. 53 right at Northwest Highway>

Great, we had rain last week and the swamp is up. I did read in the paper Friday that mercury levels are so high that they don’t recommend fresh fish more than one meal a week, though.

Oh hell, it’s on the other side of the racetrack! I absolutely know where that is. Thanks for the tip!

I’m on the Chesapeake Bay. I understand the fishing is pretty good.
