How should I care for my Zero model 1250R fan?

I was just given a Zero fan that works quite well (it also looks like it could chop off some fingers). On the back there is a little hole that says “oil”. Should I add some oil? Is there anything I should do to keep it running?

Thanks!

If you want to oil it, I’d get some Zoom Spout and add a drop or two maybe twice a year. Actually, probably less then that. That’s how we oil motors that run 24/7 and under a hell of a lot more load then that fan. Maybe one drop a year.

OTOH, if it’s been working for 70 years, you might not want to mess with it.

It may have been working for 70 years because it’s been oiled regularly. But I’d agree that it probably doesn’t need much oil.

Appreciate this thread, as I’m a light antique-fan-collector-guy.

I thought about that, but what are the chances. More then likely it’s been working for 70 years because it worked just fine (with no maintenance) for 10 years then got stuffed into a closet for the last 60 and pulled out for a rummage sale after grandma and grandpa died or moved.

Moved MPSIMS --> IMHO.

Thanks all. I’ll get some oil soon. Do you think I need to try and clean out the old oil first or can I just drop in the new stuff?
