You don’t need a license to own a book. There are no laws regulating how you carry a book, either openly or concealed. You can give a book to a child. You can own a book even if you are a convicted felon.
OP, if you or someone else is able to verify that the guns are clear, see if you can loop a cable/zip tie through the action as described in 4.3.8.2 of this guide:

Here’s a story I came across this weekend. It’s about a gun enthusiast that made one mistake with his own rifle and changed his life forever.
Sell them now while the market is hot. Don’t get stuck holding them; if the laws ever change, you may get nothing for them.
Remember when kids were crazy for Yu-gi-oh cards? Sell the rifles quick.
And I understand all that. I also understand that many people are not familiar with firearms. But the mere presence of firearms, by itself, is nothing illegal for the police to respond to, and if the person is afraid that they might be illegal, then the police are the last people you want to call!
If you are unsure of how to handle them, call someone you know who is, or a gun dealer. If you think they might be illegal/you are a convicted felon, call an attorney.
I don’t think of calling the police unless I’m in danger or I have witnessed a crime.
You don’t need a license to own a firearm either, in the US, unless you’re in Illinois or Mass, or NY if it’s a handgun.
Anyway, all guns are loaded. I know I’m not the only one who’s had a gun go off I knew was empty (on the range, pointed down-range, still a profoundly memorable experience). I also know people who do, in fact, store loaded rifles in their safes. Or I should say “know of”. It makes no sense to me, but then neither do healing crystals.
I really have to tell you all the goofy things people call the cops over?
“My husband is snoring”
“There is a possum in my back yard/bat in my attic”
“My daughter has gum in her hair and we can’t get it out”
“My cars battery is dead”
“There are kids playing in the park. Why aren’t they in school?” [it was July]
“I saw a black man carrying a white child” [Not kidding on any of these, folks!]
“My neighbor said he’d buy my car and now he said he’s changed his mind”
“I have an old firearm and want to know how I can legally dispose of it” is the least stupid of any of these.
