It’s not even really clear what exactly you are claiming I did wrong. Are we not allowed to call into question the very premises of threads that we perceive as being deeply flawed or unfair towards a person? Are we not allowed to make external comparisons with respect to the claims made in a starting post? Are we not even allowed to have free discussions??
And, also, are we seriously expected to provide links to every single statement made no matter how commonly known or obvious it is? (You expect me to believe, for example, that the fact that millions of people have being fleeing from blue states is something that you and others here don’t already know about???)
Unless things have changed drastically since the last time I posted my own thread, I happen to know for a fact that snide responses - even to perfectly polite thread posts with carefully laid out arguments, like the one I made some time ago (and very much unlike the OP of this thread) - are totally allowed and go unpunished. Or does it just depend on whose side the mod happens to be on in a particular topic?
The only thing I can see might be a legitimate cause for some kind of apology from me would be my use of the term ‘lib’ (as in “you libs”) towards the OP, which might be considered as presumptuous. But even that is stretching it because it seems patently obvious form his/her remarks and it wouldn’t be an unsafe assumption to say the least. And I’m willing to bet anything that people make such assumptions quite routinely around here without any mod-snarking whatsoever.
But if the unspoken rule is that anyone who has an unpopular perspective should tread on egg shells, that is perfectly fine with me. Do as you wish.
If you want to argue my moderation or disagree with any moderator’s call, the place to do that is the About This Message Board forum, not in this thread. I will assume you were unaware of this rule. Please feel free to continue your criticisms in a thread there. No more discussion about your objections in this thread.
I’m a pro-business Republican, so I can’t answer for libs but to answer some of your questions from a Republican standpoint:
In general, I’d say that Facebook cancelling accounts because people say non-PC stuff, expecting it to just be a place to shoot the shit with their friends, is bad. I’m sure that I’ve said inappropriate, crass stuff in the past and will in the future, and everyone understood and was fine with it. It shouldn’t be a crime.
Special snowflakes have had too good of a run.
That doesn’t track over to international relations. Imagine, for example, that because you’re pissed at the libs for all the PCness you think that means that you need to start calling the girls you want to date “bitches” and “hos”, to push back. I think you’re just going to end up a lonely guy. That’s just not the right target and the right method to right the wrong. You just make yourself look like a dick and all you get for it is more quality time with Ms Righty.
The Canadian government isn’t out there reporting crass morons for insensitivity on Facebook. Negging a country doesn’t endear you to them and doesn’t stop snowflakes on the Internet from reporting you to the mods. It just makes Canada not want to sell us stuff - so maple syrup gets more expensive - and they want to buy our shit less, so Americans lose their jobs because we’ve lost customers.
And then if we include jokes like, “I reserve the right to use military force against Greenland and Panama”, then that’s sort of like joking, “I reserve the right to rape children.” I don’t really see the joke. Should you be allowed to say things like that? Under the First Amendment, yeah, you should be allowed and it’s anti-American for websites - though they aren’t bound to abide by the Constitution since they’re private businesses - to police your language. But the First Amendment doesn’t say that we all have to look favorably on the things that you say. You’re free to make it clear that you’re a reprobate, and then we all know that and you suffer the social consequences of that choice.
The Republican position is that you shouldn’t be protected from the ramifications of your dumbass choices. That’s a much different thing from thinking that being a dumbass has somehow become something that’s going to produce good results.
