Calling us ‘Liberals’, as though that were perjorative…I’ll take that sort of ‘insult’, all day and all night long. Complaining that we are doing what we can do to try to insure a free and fair election? Pure praise, indeed.
Calling a spade a spade is not an insult. True Trump supporters don’t even flinch when we name their faults…racism, misogyny, homophobia, xenophobia, etc. etc…They are not offended because they wear those badges proudly. No one voted for Trump unless they were proud of their black souls and wanted to show them off.
Sadly, there is one slam against them that hurts their feelings. Telling them the truth that they consider themselves Christians but there is not a thing Christ-like about them seems to bother them.
WEll, let’s not let liberals get on their high horse. A fair election is one free of fraud of all types, or as free as it can possibly be made. If you’re concerned about fair elections, let’s throw out all felon votes and all absentee ballots where the signature doesn’t match.
Every time someone says that no one, including the Russians, could remotely access computerized evoting machines, the best programmers on all sides just chuckle and say, “dream on, stupid Americans…”
Other way around: It would be inefficient to make them with only just enough space. Any off-the-shelf hardware, for both the hard drive or equivalent and for the RAM, would have orders of magnitude more room than would be needed for any reasonable voting code. To make them with only just enough room would require custom-making the hardware. If you wanted the lack of room to be a security measure, you couldn’t even just bring back an old design: The hack code would probably be far smaller than the legitimate code, so you’d need to precisely match the size.
Now, what you might be able to do would be to put all of the code on a non-rewritable medium, like ROM or an optical disc. You’d still need some sort of writable space to use for working memory, and to store the results in, but it would simplify security if you never needed to load code from any non-ROM source.
I’ve watched a few interviews with computer guys demonstrating how one can hack an electronic vote machine when you’re next to it. Never seen one that said, “btw we can do this remotely, you stupid Americans.”
That said, your claim that [all] Trump supporters “wear those badges [of insulting language] proudly” is simply trolling and belongs in The BBQ Pit. Stick to the issues and leave the personal remarks out of it.
I’m told that all evoting machines are connected to some sort of diagnostic machine before each election to be sure it is working properly. Therefore only the diagnostic machine’s programming needs to be compromised. No one had said that the diagnostic program is never exposed to the internet or cannot be accessed remotely.
Yes, we argue about which persons are allowed to vote. Federal judges will be kept busy by Conservatives for the next 10000 years with their attempts to impose ever new restrictions on women’s rights and voting rights, just to name two areas the conservatives want to control.
Given the FBI reports of foreign hackers penetrating voter registration systems this actually makes some sense. Why would they be interested in such information?
Republicans have been screaming about supposed in person vote fraud. Democrats have been screaming about the possibility of hacked voting machines. Have we been arguing about the wrong things? Have we been missing the elephant in the room?
I will say though, that I’m not quite sure how this would be done. How could you use a voter database to apply for and receive absentee ballots? The ballot is sent to the address on file, so how would a hacker obtain one once it was requested? (I’m envisioning spies in trench coats, the brims of their fedoras obscuring their eyes, creeping through neighborhoods and raiding retirees mailboxes.)
What happens when numerous people show up to vote only to find that someone voted absentee in their name? What happens when duplicate absentee ballot requests are recieved for the same person, perhaps from different addresses? It seems like such a scheme, done at a large scale, would be exposed.
Have there been any reports of voters showing up and discovering that someone voted absentee in their name?
I worked an absentee poling place in Wisconsin. We counted just under 10,000 votes, something close to 1/3 of the votes from our area. I am not sure how many email votes we got but not more than 100. There were also about 100 overseas votes and things like that. All of that will be in the election official log book. All of those email ballots are stored. It would be possible to go back to look at all of those, along with the ID filed with the city.
Not all of the state handles the absentee ballots that way. Much of the state delivers the absentee ballots to the live poling sites. Those would have been logged as well, but they may have been more harried.
When you say “email ballots” do you mean that people can vote by email? I wasn’t aware of that, my impression was that you can request and receive an absentee ballot by email, but then you’d have to print it out and mail it in. Am I wrong about that?
You are correct. The email ballots are mailed in. They also has to have the signature and address of the recipient along with the signature and address of the witness, or the ballot is not counted. This is true of any of the absentee ballots.
Keep in mind all early ballots in Wisconsin are done as absentee ballots. A large portion of the early ballots, including mine, were done as absentee ballots at city hall. They get sealed in envelopes, our name is entered on the voting poles as having already been issued an absentee ballot and that it was returned. Keeping this paperwork straight is why close early voting a week early.
The early voting along with voting done in retirement communities done with individual election officials account for the majority of the absentee ballots.
Stein runs against Hillary and then uses Hillary’s supporters money to fund her party. She is going to make her party millions of dollars and also has a list of stupid people willing to give money to a progressive lost cause. My estimation of her just went way up. Trump should get her to find a way to get Mexico to pay for the wall.
