In the last few weeks, I’ve become increasingly annoyed with the shower head in our rental property. It’s one of those fixed ones, that happens to be fixed at a position somewhat lower than the top of my head, forcing me to fold in half in order to wash my hair. Combine this issue with my recent back problems, and you have a recipe for disaster.
In order to alleviate various issues, the wife and I decided that we were going to buy a new showerhead. An adjustable one. Simply getting a fixed one that is higher would not work as it would force her to constantly get her hair wet, which we would rather avoid.
We looked at a shower supply store, and were told by the manager there that shower head connectors (the one coming out of the wall, from the pipes) were identical, and that any shower head would fit. However, a trip to the hardware store, that had a much larger, less expensive selection of attachments seems to put the lie to his words, as there looked to be several sizes of connections available. Once again, we are referring to the actual bit that attaches to the wall, the shape of the head and other things are immaterial at this time.
So, any plumbers in the house that can shed some light on the problem of pipe sizes. If it makes a difference, the house looks to be about a 1970’s vintage. Perhaps a little earlier.
