Am I understanding you all correctly? When you download pornography a trojan or worm is in the program and it alerts someone …somewhere and this person keep track of this and then somehow they track your address down and bust you? This sounds awful sci-fi to me.
It’s not that strange. That kid in Minnesota(?) who reprogrammed the Blaster virus had it access his website.
IIRC, the most common way pedophiles are caught with kiddie porn is that their PC dies, and they take it into the shop to be repaired. Never thinking that the guy who fixes their PC is going to “cruise around” their system once they get it up and running. Isaac Asimov’s son got busted that way.

And in many jurisdictions, computer repairmen, photo-lab techs, video techs, etc., are legally mandated to report in any CP they run across.
(besides, accosding to a friend of mine with the DA, there is a considerable amount of CP out there under standard blocks of filenames, which your average CP trader will not rename since he wants to be able to spot new stuff)
And of course, your HD usually crashes without giving you warning to run your 7-pass DoD-grade disk-wipe utility

Hey, no prob with you, SMM, if you’ve outgrown it. It’s tough to claim two wrongs don’t make a right when the first wrong is understood to be SO wrong, but heck, someone has to do it. People have got to be careful with the direct-action responses, 'cause you may be putting yourself at risk (they may not be amused, and THEY certainly can’t call the authorities). And in any case, the authorities may have asked YOU what were YOU doing in chatrooms where you knew CP would be exchanged…
I gotta agree with both SMM and JRD. Vigilantism is in general very wrong and if you can report a site to the authorities that’s usually the best way to go. But if you can’t, messing with their computers seems like a good FU to me. After all, punching a kiddie
porn distributor in the face is illegal too, but if you do it, I’m not going to be the one to turn you in.

So Pee Wee downloads some porno of 13 yr olds. The originaotr could have been a cop right? That would be one way that they could entrap you.

Could just be someone who is disgusted with the pervs and think the authorities aren’t doing enough to catch them. By sending a virus or trojan, it’s that person’s way of giving the perv what they deserve.
