I woiuld like to connect my MacBook Pro to my HP-48 calculator, so that I can develop programs for the HP-48 and download them to it.
The HP-48 has a serial interface, a non-IrDA infrared interface, and also takes proprietary memory cards. I think that the best way would be to use the serial interface, as I suspect that the Mac’s infrared interface is receive-only, for use with the Mac remote.
The MacBook Pro has USB ports, but no RS-232-style serial ports. Therefore, I need a USB-to-RS-232-serial adaptor. What happens after that? Are serial adapters for the HP-48 still available?
The HP-48 speaks the Kermit serial protocol. Can I get software for the Mac that does the same? (I assume so, but it’s always good to check.)
Come to think of it, can I get an appropriate development environment for the HP-48’s language on the Mac? Again, I assume so, but I just don’t know what it is.
Any comments or answers would be appreciated. Thanks!
