In Wisconsin you, as landlord are not allowed to move their stuff, and it must not be put out on the sidewalk. You must hire a storage company to come take it away and you must pay the first month’s storage fee. As landlord you can not sell their stuff to get back rent. The storage company can. Pretty good racket if you are the storage company.
That all said, I am not quite sure what you were looking for in this debate. I think perhaps if you framed your question as to what you should be allowed to do as owner of the property regardless of the state, then perhaps you might be able to get your conversation started. Personally, after having gone through it with some people who seemed to have real talent at gaming the system, I like the idea of the guys in Sims that come and take enough of the tenants stuff to pay back whatever the money owed is and then we can all move on.
