How to filter by time on Google News

My Google News feed used to have filters at the top of the screen, including one that let you select only stories that were less than 1 day old, 1 week, 1 month, etc.

Recently that’s disappeared. I tried the page on Firefox, Edge, and Chrome so it’s not a browser issue. But I can’t find anybody else commenting or complaining about such a major change.

Are other people seeing this? And is there a way to get the filters back? They’re incredibly useful at times.

I also miss that feature. I also wish I know what sequence the articles are sorted in. The new stuff is mixed into the old ones in no obvious sequence that I can figure out.

Removing the buttons is pretty annoying, but you can manually add “before:YYYY-MM-DD” or “after:YYYY-MM-DD” to get the equivalent. I just tested and it appears to still work.

Are Google News search options substantially the same as Gmail search options? If so, here is an extensive list of them:

Here is another list of Google search operators, including some specific for Google News.

Thank you!!! Not only does it work, but the hyphens seem to be optional. I entered interestingtopic after:20210425 and got only articles from the last 3 days.

Odd. I tried it and it only worked with the hyphens.

Nevertheless, thanks for the great workaround.

I don’t know if this is new or not, but there is a proper filter feature.

Click on the search box, then on the little arrow ▼ at the right of the search box:

Wow. Hidden in plain sight. Thanks for opening my eyes.

I was confused at first as I use these filters to sort news on Google all of the time. Then it occurred to me that you are probably using news.google.com. I simply search for things on Google, then click on the “news” icon if I want news sources only, followed by clicking on “tools”, which exposes the time filter and sort options.
