Impossible given my situation.
What reason(s), other than your weight, do you have for not being able to walk a mile? TBH, saying you can’t walk a mile just because you are heavy sounds pretty lame.
Definitely. I must not give up my identity to society’s “values”. Especially since society’s values are changing rapidly and differ from one society to another.
Start going for walks. Just short ones to begin with; ten or fifteen minutes. I’ve found that the fastest way to confidence for me is to start becoming physically fit. Just the process and knowing I’m doing something good for myself makes a huge difference.
I am addicted to talking on many forums.
What part of “your identity” does society ask you to give up?
I spend too much time on forums and Runescape.
Change is hard. Effort is required.
I have given up all hope long long ago. I do not think I should share my family situation on a public forum.
Privacy is fine. But unless you tell people the true nature of your problems they will not be able to help you. SDMB can be a very rude/sarcastic place. But most threads like this, people asking for help, people do try to seem to help. You don’t have to talk about your family situation or other difficulties, that is up to you. But people are already trying to help you. Most people on this thread seem to be on your side and want to help.
Everything put online has a good chance of being doxxed and traced back to the user, and to their potential employers. I have already shared too much about myself on many forums.
This is a blessing in disguise. Walking is the perfect form of exercise at your size. So anytime you take the bus you have walked 2 miles. If talking to people outside of your interest range is difficult you can download podcasts for topics that interest you as you walk/ride the bus.
Perhaps you could make a list of a few destination on the bus that are not too far away and people could tell you their opinion of the different activities.
Change is hard my friend, very hard… if change we easy you would of done it long ago. (This advice goes for 99% of the population). Do not give up! Be willing to start small.
Remember, if you are trying something new and it takes effort or is stressful, that is a sign that you are working, heading in the right direction. Make a start, make some good solid effort, but only do as much as you can handle. Once you master one skill/level… move on to the next. Be patient. But be persistent.
Really? No one here knows your real name… I am not tying to be rude, I promise, but I think your fear is over exaggerated.
It is up to you to do what you want to do of course. I will not bother you any more to do more than you feel comfortable with.
Good luck, ok?
Such walks happen rarer and rarer. In 2008 I walked to the bus a few times a week. In 2010 maybe once in one or two weeks. In 2013 I took a few walks to the bus station. This year I tried once, walked a quarter of the way and took a taxi.
I am sorry. I just gave up too much info about myself over many years and many forums.
That explains the Red, I guess.
I would suggest changing your rule from “my way or the highway” to “do your own thing” and friends with similar interests will follow.
Man I had a sick gaming addiction. The way I got over it was I just deleted it one day after i noticed my work started to be affected by it. And this wasn’t easy given the money, time, effort I put into the game. The money, especially. Hard to do, but my quality of life has been better since I did.
Man its hard to delete Runescape. “Cutting back” was never a feasible option for me. TBH, I think this could be a huge factor in the problem… from personal experience. I would tell my friends I was sick or busy just so I could keep playing my games. Thats where i became most disconnected with whatever friends i had left. There’s actually a gaming addiction website and forum you might find useful if that’s what you want to do.
Do you mean because at your weight the effort was too much?
Sort of. In 2008 I weighed only 105 kg.
You like Run escape. Join a clan. Go to your local Starbucks and play. You will eventually meet other players.
