How to get a car from point A to point B

Ok, I bought a car. It’s a VW kit car made to look like a 1929 mercedes gazelle. The car is in New Jersey and I’m in southern Pennsylvania. So, obviously, I need to get the car from where it is to where I am. The problem is that the car has been in a garage since 1981, so just driving it probably isn’t a very good idea.

What are my options for getting this car to my house without spending a forune? I plan on going up there next weekend to finalize the transaction and get the car.

I have an 87 nissan pickup truck (the little 4 cylinder engine type of pickup truck). Could I tow the VW with this? How else can I get it here?

Additionally, any advice on what should be done to the car to make it road worthy again would also be appreciated.

rent a trailer - that way you are guaranteed to get the car back

if you can’t drive it - you may not be able to tow it - rent or borrow something to tow the trailer if you don’t think your vehicle will do it - personally i think your vehicle will pull it

You could also check with a motor freight carrier. While not quite as big as a VW, I shipped a large plotter from Birmingham to Houston a few years ago, and it was only ~$100.

Well, the car is not all that heavy, well within the capabilities of your truck. Renting a small flat top trailer is your best option, assuming you have an appropriate trailer hitch.
