Greetings and salutations. I am in the middle of trying to get my auto insurance company to pay for hail damage to my car. I am at the point where I need to be communicating with them in writing (aka - email), and need to be able to get a read receipt. Neither Gmail nor Yahoo (my current providers) offer read receipts. (Well, Gmail does, but that’s if you have Gmail Apps which I don’t have.)
How do I get this done? I see where there are services that claim to do this (readnotify, spypig, getnotify, mstag). Does anyone have experience with any of these? Do they work as advertised? Are there any issues I need to be aware of?
I can, but I was hoping to be able to move faster than that. I know that they have responded to a supplemental via email, so I’d rather go that route if I can.
To expand on what Munch said, the only way to get proof they received it is going to be certified mail, return receipt requested. Some email clients can request a read receipt, but there is no way to enforce it. In fact many mail clients are deliberately designed to ignore read receipt requests because of privacy concerns.
And some mail clients that allow read receipts also let you refuse to have one issued. (I hate them enough that if I see the pop-up box notifying me that one is requested, I click “no.”)
Exactly, you have no control over what gets sent back - that’s up to the policy on the receiver’s side. There’s no way to ensure that a receipt comes back if the receiver doesn’t want it to.
