There was a riot near Springvale McDonalds after the Summer Festival. There were riot Police-police and horse Police and violence. Media usually loves reporting this stuff. Nothing in today’s news. I feel there is some kind of censorship going on. How do I get this in the media?
Summer festival? Is Springvale in the Southern Hemisphere?
Who was rioting and why?
Are the horses OK?
Police knew something was going to happen- https://mobile.twitter.com/Stardust1488/status/1096345332265345024
I can’t read twitter on my iPad.
Moved to IMHO.

Seems to be regarding a heavy police presence in Burden Park, Springvale, Victoria, Australia.
Lots of cops who filmed everyone who entered is the only worrisome thing I see. Looks like there was some sort of festival there last night.
I was there and had to get my family to safety . This is a serious concern about a major incident being censored by police and the media . Perhaps can be moved from this IMHO
What’s your theory on their motivation?
A tennis club riot? Those are the worst.
It’s across the international date line so it hasn’t happened here yet.
You call up the newspaper and TV stations and tell them you have a story.
Unless they’re actively suppressing the story for some reason, in which case you call their competitors.
Or, in this day and age, you can yourself be their competitor, and get the story out yourself, using Twitter, Facebook, blogs, and whatever other social media you prefer (heck, even this very message board).
This seems to be related to the argument that Australian authorities are downplaying a gang presence in certain suburban areas.
And yet, you don’t really have a lot to say about it.
In my opinion news organizations LUUUUURVE to cover riots. Maybe call the next one in while it’s happening.
If you were there, what did you actually see? What was happening around you that you felt was unsafe? You saw a lot of police at a live outdoor festival. Were they hanging around looking for drunks and pickpockets, or were they all charging in the same direction? Did you smell tear gas? You showed us a Twitter post that said “more violence” with no detail. Do you have any reason to believe there was anything more than two drunks getting into a fistfight? Are there videos showing up on social media?
If this site is indicative of Australian media, they don’t seem to shy away from reporting crime news. Seems to me a riot at an outdoor festival would be hard to hide.
Footage, dear boy, footage. Send them footage of the incident. Why else do you think God created mobile phones?
If there’s no footage then, as far as a large chunk of the mainstream media are concerned, it didn’t happen. That’s not censorship so much as ratings-driven editorial policies.
Late night on a Friday or Saturday or Sunday?
In the modern media era, where layoffs and cutbacks are rampant, the odds are nobody with a camera was working.
Only news Down Under is when dangerous animals kill somebody.
If you want to get something into the news, shoot it yourself and hit the venues’ websites for their submission criteria.
I used to handle media relations for the Air Force. “If it’s a slow day…” (as in news day) is the song I most hated to hear. Of course, if it was something I’d rather not be in the news, they never seemed to have the voice for that tune! Go figure!
