How to Get Published in a Literary Journal?

On my trek to my PhD, my advisor thinks it would be useful to try to get something published. I have some articles and essays obviously, but he seemed to indicate something as simple as a book review would be the easiest.

The two journals he specifically mentioned are JML (Journal of Modern Literature) and Twentieth Century Literature.

I’m wondering if anyone has had any luck personally with this endeavor and how to navitage and expedite (although I figure I’m in for a wait) the process.

I don’t know about literary journals per se, but i would recommend looking at the kind of stuff that gets published in these specific journals and making sure you send in something similar. If the social sciences are anything to go with, it can take quite some time before you get a respnse.

The magazines (or their websites) should have a submission address. There probably also are instructions on their websites. Follow those. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope if you’re mailing it.
