How to kill ants organically?

I’ve heard that mixing icing sugar and baking soda 50/50 does the trick. They’re attracted to the sugar, but the baking soda ruptures the digestive system.

uh, nevermind.

Pour boiling water with soap added down the anthills.

I was going to recommend this.

Only some of them. The rest will build a statue in your honor.

Twilight Zone: The little people.

I have been experimenting with ant eradication this summer. Borax has worked for me. Used coffee grounds spread over ant hills has also worked. One note of warning - don’t leave used coffee grounds on concrete. In the right conditions, it eats a hole into the concrete.

A neighbor told me that rye flour also works, but I cannot confirm this.

Use one of those.

Uranium occurs in nature…

Lift off and nuke them from orbit.

Bad idea. Do you want to deal with one of those ?

use some malt-o-meal! it works pretty good! they eat it and it swells up and they die!

Evidence?

Use orange oil, or another derivative of citrus. For more, go to http://www.dirtdoctor.com/.

I can only tell you from my experience that it works. My yard is organic, and although I don’t always agree with Howard Garrett, in this case he is right.

I would say get Gardenville’s “Anti-Fuego,” but I doubt it’s available wherever you live, but it is based on orange oil.

By-the-by, North Texas is a semi-center of organic gardening, thanks to Howard. My wife is a militant. I only have to venture in my backyard, tiny as it is, to see the results.

Also, Borax works. It’s mainly boric acid, but I would be reluctant to use it heavily. Not because it’s necessarily bad, but because it’s an acid and you have to keep the soil pH levels proper for plant growth.

It’s very good on roaches, though. And you really don’t have to worry too much about boric acid harming your kids and pets. A little goes a long way.
