How to light a vanity table?

I have a lovely vanity table with large mirror in my bedroom, and wanted to use it for applying makeup so that I wouldn’t be hogging the bathroom in the morning. I would be standing at it, rather than sitting, more likely than not. I realized that the room isn’t lit sufficiently to let me to use the vanity, and that I haven’t the faintest idea how to light it. The Hollywood/Broadway dressing room style of lights (lightbulbs in a frame around the mirror) won’t work - besides the fact that it’s a sectional mirror (with two wings that fold out), it’d probably look tacky with that vanity.

The room has very high ceilings (8’ at least), and is painted white. The other lighting in the room consists of two small lamps on the bedstands, and two wall mounted pull-chain lamps, one by the door and one by the second closet.

How on earth would I properly light the vanity table area to get light on my face without excess glare? Any suggestions? I’m not really interested in hanging a lamp from the ceiling.

Just one bump since this seems to be slipping off the end of the second page, then I’ll let it go.

Would it work to put a small lamp (perhaps shaped like a '50s lady with a full-length, frilly skirt) on the table? Either that or a wall sconce on either side at face height.

First, you douse liberally in lighter fluid, then you get a match - what? - oh, sorry, misinterpreted the question.

You could either use some spotlights on the wall just above the mirrors, pointing down at the table, or a couple of lamps with directional tops (not shades), that are down for subdued lighting most of the time, but can be adjusted upwards to use.
