What should I do to be able to do an adequate trunk lift?
I’d never heard the term before, but it looks similar to an exercise called a hyperextension. A hyperextension is done on a special kind of bench that most gyms have. Your ankles hook underneath a horizontal bar, and your stomach rests on a flat surface that acts as a fulcrum for lifting your upper body using your lower back muscles, as in a trunk lift. Some people hold a weight behind their head while doing this exercise, which I imagine would strengthen the muscles used in a trunk lift.

When I was his age all I did was practice lifting my trunk.
My trunk is not just adequate, it is spectacular.
The answer is: practice trunk lifts. Seriously.
The other thing that you can do is to maintain low body fat and be in general good health and do any type of exercise that improves core strength, which is everything from crunches to planks.
and swim alot, helps build up all the muscles groups
