Does anybody know how to prevent your computer from storing junk files? I run System Care program every day due to slow performance and it shows 2-3K junk files. I assume this will slow things down. I also run Ccleaner and defrag almost on a daily basis. Thank You for any advice in this matter.
P.S. Its a compaq laptop with Windos XP if that matters.
You are working too hard to maintain your system. It’s just not necessary and over working your hard drive. Those files are not causing a perceptible slow down of your system. If slowness is a problem, look elsewhere.
Just the mere fact that there are files on your hard drive won’t significantly affect the performance of your computer. Yes, if you have 1.99TB of files on a 2 TB system and somehow they are all on the inside tracks of the disk and your operating system has somehow found its way to the outer tracks, then there probably will be a measurable difference.
What slows a computer down, as Morgenstern points out, is programs actually running, using up cycles on the processor and memory.
Don’t worry about them. Temporary files (and the like) being created is completely normal. If anything, deleting a bunch of temp files may decrease performance; they can be, for example, saving portions of frequently used sites so they don’t need to constantly be redownloaded.
