How to stop interrupting in debates?

I don’t think that format has been used since the Jimmy Smits v. Alan Alda debate on “The West Wing”.

He has been digging that grave for many years now.
Do you see any bodies in that grave?

I think the idea of basically doing the debates over a zoom meeting where the moderator controls all the mikes is great. Video is never cut off, so the opponent can frown or shake his head or do a bad impression of a physically disabled person all they want; the speaker will see all this and if they get shaken by this it’s their problem.

Yup. I see a swamp full. How many of his people are currently serving prison sentences?

You said he was digging his own grave. No bodies there, as far as I can see.

I haven’t read through all the replies, but … setting aside the obvious … what about this ?

No matter who agrees to what rules in advance … and who breaks those rules … and how egregiously and how often … a reasonable person would have significant fear for their safety, their career, and the safety of their loved ones if either DJT or his followers felt slighted.

Literally.

DJT and his followers have felt slighted since at least 1992.

Not yet, maybe. Give it time. Though I’m sure he also has the legal people to help him squirm out of anything he’s done or contracts he’s not honoured over the years, so there’s that. Maybe he’ll just find a way to pardon himself before he leaves office.

Then it would never be over.

My suggestion would be dunk tanks.

Shock collar, then. I didn’t want to resort to that sort of thing, but The Cheato brings it upon himself. Just ONCE I’d like to see him suffer for breaking a rule.

You don’t have to go full on cattle prod.

Just a mild and unpleasant electric shock.

Something wouldn’t really hurt, but that they would like to make stop. And they can, by not talking anymore.

Are you saying we have to do whatever Trump wants out of fear of reprisals? What on earth do you mean here?

Danny Trejo standing behind Trump with a large roll of duct tape.

Shock collar is a good idea actually. And it should be used in all debates especially those college ones that are surreal.

Not we as a nation, but … if you were the moderator (or some behind-the-scenes production person) … charged with pushing the button that cut off DJT’s microphone … you don’t think you’d be sleeping with one eye open ?

Trump will not accept any changes in debate rules:

It’ll be interesting to see how the debate commission responds to this. They know that Trump has turned it into a meaningless shit show and they risk becoming irrelevant. Trump often bluffs and backs down, so maybe they make the changes and dare him to stay away.

Nope. Trump’s response will be to make whiney tweets and call me childish names, and none of his thuggish supporters will lift a finger.

Trump’s not the boogeyman, you know.

It wouldn’t be a debate change if the moderator just happened to have an airhorn that he just happened to blare every time one candidate or the other spoke for more than five seconds out of turn, right?
