Finally, a law we all can get behind.
Who are the victims in the punishable offense of jaywalking? I can understand them being charged for causing an accident, but if they cross safely, who has been victimised? Essentially, they are being punished for something that might have happened.
As are people who drive the wrong way on a one-way street, run red lights, drive drunk… there is no clause wherein if nobody got killed, you get away with it. You really don’t see why that might be a problem?
The victims are every driver who’s ever hit some idiot who jumped out from in between two parked cars without looking, or every driver who’s been rear-ended because he slammed on the brakes to not hit one of the aforementioned idiots.
Sure, it’s not as serious as robbery, but we can’t all be you.
It took me less than five seconds to scroll up and find post #183.
Do you feel that way about drunk driving too? As long as one is making it home incident free and without weaving or breaking laws, they should be allowed to go on their merry way? The main reason there are legal consequences to certain actions is to act as a deterrent. If jaywalking tickets were only issued to those that have caused an accident, no one would be deterred from jaywalking by jaywalking laws. Also, there are other reasons not to jaywalk such as drivers having to slow down constantly for idiots crossing the street wherever they want and at whatever pace they want.
If reading my respnses to you is too much effort then forget it. I’ll just assume I was correct in my judgement that you’re just screwing around for entertainment.
Jeee sus man. That’s why we have laws against speeding, running stop lights drinking and driving. Because those activities increase the chance someone will get hurt. Do you think about your responses before you type them?
And I’ll say it again… candy ass punk who doesn’t have the guts to say it to an officer’s face.
I have done while handcuffed, and got a knee in my bollocks for my effrontery. I bet you think attacking a handcuffed prisoner is a manly act, don’t you?
Oh, you mean the question “What would you have done?”
I’d have bent down to tie my shoelace and “missed” her crossing the road when there’s a nearby overpass. What does he have to lose? What did he gain by making a fucking big issue of it?
I doubt seriously that a Law Enforcement professional attacked you. I’m quite very sure that he used forced necessary to complete the arrest.
wow, not only is that not the question , you responded to the wrong post.
No need to respond again. You’ve demonstrated you’re not worth it.
What makes you think you have the least right to defend yourself (or anyone else) physically from a bullshit arrest?
An offense for which, I am sure we can all agree, a brisk punch in the face is the lightest acceptable punishment.
I am in favor of this course of action, because, frankly, the defense of the misuse of “affect” by certain posters is the most appalling thing in this thread.
You don’t believe an officer might do that? I do. No it’s not a manly act. It’s an understandable response to gross stupidity and the exclamation point on STFU.
I was already arrested, at the police station, and had been handed over to a plain clothes officer, or detective, as you might describe them. I had my hands cuffed behind my back and was being told to sit down on a chair in the interview room, which I refused to do and told him to go fuck himself when he raised his voice.
When he walked over to me, I was expecting him to push me back towards the chair and he kneed me in the balls. I was there; I know it happened, and you know fuck all.
Now wtf are you on about?
It is comforting to have such a belief. The Detroit police department just got ordered by a judge to start cleaning up the more than 1100 cases of police complaints. He is fining them 1000 bucks a day until they clean them up. I suppose it is all bad people and good cops. But ,I doubt it.
So the school asks the police to post a police officer there to stop jaywalkers who keep getting run over by cars, and you want him to stand around there pretending to tie his shoelaces?
I don’t like the jaywalking laws here, but that location is probably the biggest one that needs it. It’s not just a random teen, it’s a constant stream of people racing across the major arterial coming up on an extremely busy intersection. Look at the google map link referenced in one of the previous posts. This is not an instance of a cop harassing for no cause.
right. and for folks who read english with comprehension there’s a difference between
and
see if you can figure it out. You ought to provide some entertainment.
I didn’t see him get assaulted by the woman who got punched.
If Italian police reacted the same way to people gesturing frantically, they’d be punching people all day.
