How to stop someone from jaywalking: punch them in the face.

Why would a cop whipp someones ass for jay walking?

or

Why would someone risk getting their ass kicked by a cop, getting arresting, and likely be charged with assault on a police officer to avoid a measley jaywalking ticket?

The simple thinkers here seem to think the first question is relevant, while the rest of us understand its really the second question that needs to be answered.

Well, maybe it’d be interesting to know how many other people he had booked up to that point, eh?

How old are you?

Never liked the cops. Never did. I have seen them at their slimiest. I have seen them say outright that they are dirty. To my face. I know there are good ones, but I have seen too many bad ones. But if I were a cop, making an arrest for any matter, I don’t care how trivial, and someone tried to interfere by physically grabbing me; they are getting punched in the face. Barring some kind of herculean resrtaint that comes out of the bowels of my gut, they are getting punched. (can’t see the video at work).

Nearly 48. I look well for it, don’t I?

If the woman had tried to strike the officer, I’d tend to agree, but the guy was manhandling a woman for jaywalking, ffs! With a crowd around!?! If he’d done that in the wrong area, he could have caused a riot. For what…a jaywalking ticket?

Props to the other young adults who didn’t get sucked into diva central. They knew the score…even the male jaywalker. That was refreshing. Even the “Are you serious?” guy and the cell phone video crew knew what the boundaries were. Props to them as well.

For shits and giggles, I google-mapped the street in question…and guess what…yup…jaywalkers.

Why? How many tickets had he written? How many people had assaulted him in the process of giving a ticket would be more relevant.

You don’t understand. He was just standing around doing nothing, then he saw some BLACK girls jaywalking and then…he was like…you know…white on rice!

It’s not the most unlikely scenario in the world of possibilities.

This is a thing of beauty. Well done, Vinyl Turnip.

But, but… it bears no relation to me or my posting style, except in the eyes of complete fucking morons, so why is it so clever?

That’s wrong. She escalated the situation by walking away while he was writing the ticket. An officer is trying to preform his duty. You don’t get to say “fuck off” and walk away to a cop no matter how minor the offense or if you disagree. If you do then expect to be arrested. If you then physically resist arrest, as she plainly did, you might expect to get hurt.
He manhandled her for resisting lawful commands, not for jaywalking.

Why do you think should happen if an officer writes a simple speeding tecket or a ticket for littering or illegal parking and the person becomes beligerent and combative? It could have stayed very minor had the two urban divas not resisted and decided assult was a good option.

Well, for starters, in this thread, you’ve been a fucking moron. I think it fairly represents the strength and quality of the arguments you’ve raised, and does so with comedic flair.

that’s not how the article reads is it? There’s no reason to assume he singled them out for no good reason, but we can plainly see them resisting and assaulting him.

Where did you see that? It’s certainly not shown in the video linked in the OP.

I think you misunderstand how crazy the cops are about jaywalking in Seattle. Read this article, for instance. This is from 2003:

I had a friend visit me from Seattle several weeks ago, and she told me that jaywalking is seriously enforced in Seattle. I was incredulous, but that’s the deal in Seattle. It’s not an issue of race. Yes, I think it’s crazy and overboard. However, if you don’t agree with it (and I don’t), shoving the cops is hardly the correct way to express your dissatisfaction with the system. You shove a cop, you should expect to be met with a physical confrontation. I have no sympathy for the person in the video.

I’m a fucking moron? For criticizing the actions of a man who feels it neccesary to punch a women in the face for trying to defend her friend from a bullshit arrest?

That was disingenuous.

Within 24 hours of arriving in Seattle, my young son and I watched three police officers converge on a 20-something guy (white, if that makes any difference) a few feet away and Take Him Down.

But, since he’d been shoplifting in the store we’d just walked out of, it was justified.

So we learned: Seattle cops do have important things to do. And they respond quickly, with plennnty of force. And it’s kind of cool to be right next to them when they do, if you’re in no danger of being their next target. And don’t mess with them.
