How to support academia and view much academic work as nonsense

What you’re talking about is not “an entire academic discipline.” Only a minority of those who teach in departments of English will ever publish a paper that uses continental-type (or as you put it, the “pomo/critical theory” sort) of criticism. I would estimate it to be less than one-third of them. There are literary conferences where such terminology is hardly ever heard. If you’re going to complain about the people who advocate these theories, be more accurate about how widespread they are. They are a minority of the scholars in one academic field and even smaller proportions of the certain other fields. Why don’t you do some actual research yourself and find out just what proportion of the scholarly papers published in various academic fields use these theories? Yes, I mean that you should actually do some research. Don’t just tell us that it’s all or most of an academic field without some statistics to back up your assertions.
