How useless can internet reviews get?

The weekly update from the fine site, Barking Up the Wrong Tree included a link to Shiny Objects: Why We Spend Money We Don’t Have in Search of Happiness We Can’t Buy.

The most recent review says

I read a review on the book and thought I’d like to read it, but I have many other books I want to read more at present.

which I thought was a funny, ironic pisstake. Not so. Her other reviews:

I don’t know a thing about the book, as it was a gift. It was in good condition when it arrived and the person who wanted it was pleased

I chose the rating because I didn’t know what else to check off. Why don’t you add an area to check for gift/or haven’t read yet?

I’ve had this book for years and like it. This copy was a gift for a friend and I haven’t heard from her as to weather she likes it or not.

Again this was a gift and I don’t know if the person has had time to look at it yet. It’s impossible to address these reviews when the books aren’t for myself.

and just so you know she is a serious reader

I like mysteries, so this was enjoyable. I donate the books to the library or pass them on to a friend when I’m finished.

Most edifying.
