My Sec+ is expiring in a few months, and I am thinking that since I will be spending the time and money to renew it anyway, I might as well get a higher-level cert out of it. The CASP will renew what I have, and am very interested in network security, so I would like to do it to learn more.

IMHO (look up where you posted this).
I hire quite a few lower-level IT technicians and CompTIA certs have never played an important role in getting an interview or the job. I think I am being generous with the 1.36%.
Real education and work experience as well as interview skills are far more important. Also being able to write a resume and cover letter that make sense and let me know what you know (few can actually do this).
